A modification to a standard measuring tape which includes a sliding piece of material which moves within the body of the measuring tape but does not detach.

Provided is a tape measure having a length marking function, in which a guide having a slide groove formed at a predetermined distance from a bottom vertically extending from a first side of the casing and an insertion gap spaced from the first side is integrally formed; a threaded hole is formed through a bottom of the guide; a locking ball partially protruding inside the guide, a compression spring elastically supporting the locking ball, and a wrench bolt preventing separation of the locking ball and the compression spring are disposed in the threaded hole; a marker is provided to mark a length of an object pointed by a scale on the metal tape drawn out from the casing.

A tape measure including a reinforced or coated tape measure blade is provided. The coating is thicker than the metal inner layer of the tape blade. The coating provides a reinforced tape blade such that elongate tape blade may have a pinch load threshold of greater than 50 lbs. and/or a pinch height at break of less than 1.5 mm. A hook assembly may also provide for reduced stress at the end of the tape blade.

A tape measure includes a spool, a housing defining an opening, where the spool is rotatably coupled to the housing, and a blade including a first end and a second end, where the first end is connected to the spool and the second end is movable through the opening between a retracted position and an extended position. The present invention relates measuring tapes and methods for making thereof. In particular, the measuring tape of the present invention contains a wipe mechanism for cleaning the tape as it retracts into its housing. The wipe mechanism contains a top wipe and a bottom wipe for removing debris from the top and bottom surfaces of the tape, respectively, when it is retracted after use.

A tape measure including an elongate tape blade is shown. The tape measure includes a protective bumper that extends below the tape opening. The bumper is shaped to allow the tape hook to pivot during drop or impact to reduce the impact force experienced by the tape hook.

The present invention relates measuring tapes and methods for making thereof.
