Disclosed is a system and method for using a digital measuring device to install a structure. For example, the system can be used to install hurricane shutters over a window or door of a dwelling. Alternatively, the system can be used to install decorative shutters, shelving, or window treatments. Other example will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art. The present system is beneficial in any situation where taking accurate measurements is critical to the proper installation of a structure. The system employs a digital measuring device that wirelessly communicates with a mobile computing device. In one embodiment, the measuring device is a tape measure and the mobile computing device is a phone or table computer. The mobile computing device is preferably used to demonstrate to the user what measurements need to be taken. After the user takes the required measurements, the accuracy and sufficiency of the measurements are thereafter confirmed via the mobile computing device.

A digital workpiece measurement system and method for intelligent measurements measures the length, angles, and characteristics of a workpiece, and then automatically displays the measurement and the other identifying measurement related data in a digital, incrementally adjustable manner. The workpiece measurement system provides a flexible measuring tape and micrometer head that electronically measures the distance between a starting measuring point and an ending measuring point. The short point, long point, square cut angle, and characteristics of the workpiece are inputted into the system. Various functions controlled by short, long, and square check switch mechanisms allow for manually inputting the measurements, incrementally editing the measurements, identifying the short point, long point, and square edges of the workpiece, and transmit the measurements and other data to a remote data storage unit for future processing and measurement analysis. The system also detachably attaches to a belt or wall through a clip or adhesive.

A device for measuring a weight and a length of a fish, the device comprising: a communication unit configured to transmit information to an external terminal; a fixing unit configured to hang and fix the fish; an elastic unit connected to the fixing unit and configured to generate an elastic force in response to the weight of the fish hanging on the fixing unit; a weight measuring unit configured to measure the elastic force using a weight sensor; and a control unit configured to generate information on the weight of the fish on the basis of the measured elastic force.

A measuring instrument includes a plurality of first readers that optically read a plurality of patterns from a measure having a color pattern including the plurality of patterns arranged at a regular interval in a length direction, the plurality of first readers being arranged at the regular interval in the length direction, a converter that converts the plurality of patterns read by the plurality of first readers into a value of an N-ary number (N is 3 or more), and a calculator that calculates a scale value of the measure based on data that defines a relationship between the value of the Nary number and the scale value of the measure.

The example apparatus may include a housing having an aperture, a reel assembly, a measuring tape, a touch control, an audio output device, an audio input device, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry may be configured to receive a touch control signal and initiate a measurement acquisition session, receive verbal measurement audio data from the audio input device, perform a speech recognition analysis on the verbal measurement audio data to determine measurement data, and store the measurement data in a memory device.

An example distance measuring apparatus is provided. The example apparatus may include a housing having an aperture, a reel assembly, a measuring tape, a touch control, an audio output device, an audio input device, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry may be configured to receive a touch control signal and initiate a measurement acquisition session, receive verbal measurement audio data from the audio input device, perform a speech recognition analysis on the verbal measurement audio data to determine measurement data, and store the measurement data in a memory device.

An example distance measuring apparatus is provided. The example apparatus may include a measuring tape with distance measurement indicia, a camera, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry may be configured to cause the camera to capture an image of the measuring tape, and determine a measurement by analyzing the captured image. The measurement may be determined based on the distance measurement indicia of the measuring tape within the image at a measurement position. The processing circuitry may be further configured to store the measurement in a memory device.

An example distance measuring apparatus is provided. The example apparatus may include a measuring tape with distance measurement indicia, a camera, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry may be configured to cause the camera to capture an image of the measuring tape, and determine a measurement by analyzing the captured image. The measurement may be determined based on the distance measurement indicia of the measuring tape within the image at a measurement position. The processing circuitry may be further configured to store the measurement in a memory device.
