Variable cone flow meter
09739651 · 2017-08-22 · ·

A flow meter for measuring fluid flow in a tubular that includes an obstruction suspended in a path of the fluid flow, and where the obstruction has a conical shape. The obstruction can be conically shaped on its upstream and downstream ends, or can be conically shaped only on its upstream end. When only the upstream end is conically shaped, the downstream end can be substantially planar or shaped like a hemisphere. Optionally, the aspect ratio of the obstruction can be changed by manipulating supports that suspend the obstruction within the flow meter.

Flow control system with build-down system flow monitoring

To provide a flow control system with build-down system flow monitoring that realizes flow monitoring close to real-time monitoring by combining build-down system flow rate measurement with the upstream side of the flow control system without using a thermal type flow sensor by effectively utilizing high pressure fluctuation resistance characteristics of the flow control system, and can be significantly downsized and reduced in cost.

FLUID PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM USING FLOW DATA

A fluid monitoring system is provided, which includes a control unit and at least one fluid pressure recorder. The recorder is configured for direct connection to a pipeline portion of a system to be monitored and includes upstream and downstream pressure sensors. The control unit is configured to detect, and provide for display or trigger an action, in the event that a new downstream pressure is more than a threshold number of standard deviations above or below a mean downstream pressure determined from prior readings of the downstream pressure—even though neither the minimum nor maximum pressure of the pipeline portion is reached. A fluid monitoring system for a regulator on a pipeline system is also provided.

Apparatus and method for accurately measuring flow of a multi-component mixture having scale buildup

A method and apparatus for determining the flow rates of a multi-component fluid mixture is disclosed. The temperature and pressure of the multi-component mixture is determined. The fractions of the multi-component mixture are determined based on at least two measured physical properties of the mixture and knowledge of the same physical property of the individual components. The velocity of the multi component mixture is determined. The flow rate of the individual component of the fluid is determined. An electromagnetic measurement is performed. A statistical parameter related to the electromagnetic measurement is calculated and compared to an empirical derived threshold value corresponding to the value of the statistical parameter when only one of the components of the multi component mixture is present. The thickness of unwanted deposits on the pipe wall is determined and an improved flow rate determination of the individual components of the fluid is obtained.

WEIGHT-BASED PHASE COMPOSITION RATIO DETERMINATION

Several embodiments include a method of computing a phase composition ratio of a two-phase mixture in a pipe. For example, the phase composition ratio is a void fraction or a dryness fraction. The two-phase mixture can have one or more material substances that do not travel as a whole (e.g., at least two of solid phase, liquid phase, and gaseous phase or two liquid materials of different densities that do not mix). A load cell can measure, continuously, weight of the pipe and content of the pipe. Then, a computing system or a circuit can compute, continuously, a moving average of the continuously measured weight. The computing system or the circuit can compute a change in the phase composition ratio of the two-phase mixture based on the computed moving average.
