Upright vacuum cleaners that include a switch that detects whether a removable filter assembly has been connected to the vacuum cleaner are disclosed. In some embodiments, the upright vacuum cleaner includes a capacitor for protecting the switch from voltage transients.

A blower includes a main body which includes a housing and a fan disposed in the housing. The housing further defines an air discharge opening. The blower further includes an extension tube connected to the air discharge opening, the extension tube extending between a first end connected to the air discharge opening and a second end. The blower further includes a variable nozzle, the variable nozzle including a plurality of adjustable air control surfaces. The blower further includes a nozzle adjustment tube connected to the second end of the extension tube and at least partially surrounding the variable nozzle.

A surface cleaning apparatus includes a floor cleaning unit and a portable surface cleaning unit. The floor cleaning unit includes a surface cleaning head having a charger and an upper section moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head between an upright storage position and a rearwardly inclined floor cleaning position. The portable surface cleaning unit is connectable to the floor cleaning unit, and includes a portable surface cleaning unit air inlet connectable in air flow communication with the floor cleaning unit, a main body, an air treatment member, a suction motor, a handle and a capacitor, wherein the capacitor is rechargeable at a rate of at least 4 C.

A vacuum cleaner includes a cleaner main body including a suction motor for generating a suction force; a suction unit that is in communication with the cleaner main body and sucks air and dust; and a battery that supplies power to the suction motor. The vacuum cleaner also includes a battery management system (BMS) that detects a status of the battery; and a controller that controls an operation of the suction motor. If a voltage of the battery detected by the BMS reaches a changeable reference voltage, the controller stops the suction motor.

A surface cleaning apparatus comprises wheels to enable the body to be moved across a floor. An air treatment member is provided in the body and is moveable between a cleaning position, in which the air treatment member is positioned in the body, and a removal position in which a handle of the air treatment member is accessible by a user.

A vacuum cleaner or a docking station has momentum separator having first and second sidewalls which are porous. A first air flow chamber is located exterior to the momentum separator between a first end wall, which is spaced from and faces the first side screen, and the first side screen. A second air flow chamber is located exterior to the momentum separator between a second end wall, which is spaced from and faces the second side screen, and the second side screen. In operation, air exits the momentum separator through the first and second side screens and travels through the first and second air flow chambers to the air outlet of the first and second air flow chambers.

A hand vacuum cleaner has an information display device provided on a rear wall of the rear end of the hand vacuum cleaner.

A hand vacuum cleaner has an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor positioned in the air flow path. A docking station for a robotic surface cleaning apparatus has a momentum separator. The momentum separator has a plurality of walls comprising an upper wall, a lower wall and a first sidewall, wherein the first sidewall extends between the upper and lower walls, and wherein the first sidewall comprises a side screen. A first end wall is spaced from and faces the side screen wherein an up flow chamber is positioned between the first end wall and the side screen.
