A system, apparatus and method of improved measurement of the SPF factor of sunscreen compositions. In one embodiment, a method of measuring the protection of a sunscreen composition includes exposing skin to a known intensity of light, measuring the amount of remitted light from the skin, applying sunscreen to the skin, exposing the skin to which the sunscreen has been applied the known intensity of emitted light of the spectrum of light from which the sunscreen is intended to protect the skin, measuring the amount of light remitted from the skin, and calculating a UltraViolet-A Protection Factor (UVA-PF) of the sunscreen by comparing the amount of light remitted from the skin with the sunscreen to the amount of light remitted from the skin without the sunscreen.

In an embodiment an ambient light sensor includes a first plurality of sensor elements, each sensor element configured to provide a signal in response to a level of illumination and a second plurality of reference elements, each reference element configured to provide a reference signal and each including a blocking element configured to shield the respective reference element from being illuminated, wherein the first plurality is larger than the second plurality and the first plurality of sensor elements and the second plurality of reference elements are arranged in an array, and wherein a sensor element and a reference element are laterally arranged on or in a common layer substrate sharing at least one common first contact.

Determining infrastructure lamp status using a vehicle

A vehicle computer is disclosed that includes one or more processors and memory that stores instructions executable by the one or more processors. The computer may be programmed to: receive a light input from an array of photovoltaic cells carried by a vehicle; based on the light input, determine that an infrastructure lamp is in a degraded state or a failure state; and transmit a report to a backend system based on the determination.

In an embodiment, a photo sensor comprises a photo diode, a filter circuit, and an output circuit. The filter circuit has an input node configured to be electrically coupled to an output node of the photo diode, and has an output node. The filter circuit has an adjustable gain, and the adjustable gain is adjustable based on a signal output from the filter circuit. The output circuit has an input node configured to be electrically coupled to the output node of the filter circuit.

Arc time recording system for auto-darkening welding helmet

A welding helmet can record a welding time based on an arc intensity detected by a sensor mounted on the helmet. A configured level is compared with the arc intensity detected by the sensor to determine a welding duration. Individual welding times from multiple welding instances can be accumulated over a period of time to provide a total welding time for an operator. The total welding time may be stored in the welding helmet.

An object detector including a light-emitting system to emit light to an object, a light detector, a signal detector, and a threshold adjuster. The light detector receives the light emitted from the light-emitting system and reflected by the object, and output a signal. The signal detector detects the signal output from the light detector based on a threshold value of voltage. The threshold adjuster changes the threshold value between when the light-emitting system emits light to a part of a light-emission range of the light-emitting system and when the light-emitting system emits light to other part of the light-emission range other than the part of the light-emission range.
