CONTAINER LASHING GEAR MONITORING SYSTEM
A system and method for monitoring one or more objects that have been restrainedly secured to a vehicle by one or more restraint members. The system includes a plurality of sensors each configured for monitoring one or more of a compressive or tensile stress or strain in one of the one or more restraint members, and a controller for periodically interrogating each of the plurality of sensors to ascertain a value of stress or strain detected by the respective sensor. When a change in the value of stress or strain is indicative of loosened or overtightened restraint members, a mitigation event is triggered.

Arrangement and a method for inspecting the condition of a chain
There is provided a fast and a reliable way to inspect a condition of a chain by an arrangement comprising a camera and guide for positioning a chain in front of the camera such that holes of consecutive chain links are visible to the camera. In a method for inspecting a chain connected movable to a hoisting device, the chain is positioned in front of the camera by the guide and the chain is driven past the camera by the hoisting device.

Steel cable
A steel cable includes steel wires and at least one light wave guide which is surrounded by the steel wires and provided for detecting load-dependent cable strains, and has a glass fiber surrounded by a plastic casing. At least the steel wires closest to the light wave guide are crimped with the light wave guide and permanently pressed against the casing surface thereof, whereby the cross-sectional shape of the casing surface of the light wave guide deviates from an unloaded shape, in particular a circular shape, and the light wave guide is clamped continuously along at least one part of the longitudinal extension thereof, in a slip-free manner between the steel wires closest to same. A method produces a steel cable of this type.

Belt Sensor System
A belt sensor system comprising a first IR sensor disposed adjacent to a belt to detect a belt surface proximity and to generate a first signal therefore, a second IR sensor disposed adjacent to a belt to detect a periodic signal from a second belt surface and to generate a second signal therefore, a signal processor operating on the first signal and second signal to calculate a dynamic belt tension, and displaying the dynamic belt tension on a GUI.
Force sensor for tendon-actuated mechanisms
A force sensor for a tendon-actuated mechanism, the force sensor comprising: a body having a through hole for passage of a tendon of the tendon-actuated mechanism therethrough, the body configured to be connected to a part of the tendon-actuated mechanism through which the tendon passes; and a sensor provided on the body to obtain a compression force on the body from the part of the tendon-actuated mechanism through which the tendon passes.

Optical fiber sensing method
The optical fiber sensing method of the present invention includes steps of: joining heat shrinkable tubes to two ends of a sensing segment of an optical fiber; coupling a fixing element on the heat shrinkable tube below the sensing segment; detachably connecting at least one floating element to the fixing element; placing the floating element into a fluid; and providing an input signal to the sensing segment and generating an output signal after the input signal is processed by the sensing segment, wherein the tensile force applied to the sensing segment would change with variation of the buoyant force upon the floating element, resulting in change of the output signal. Accordingly, the optical fiber sensing method has numerous advantages, including rapid on-site construction, recyclability of components and changeability of design parameters.
