A sensor system includes a sensor network comprising at least one optical fiber having one or more optical sensors. At least one of the optical sensors is arranged to sense vibration of an electrical device and to produce a time variation in light output in response to the vibration. A detector generates an electrical time domain signal in response to the time variation in light output. An analyzer acquires a snapshot frequency component signal which comprises one or more time varying signals of frequency components of the time domain signal over a data acquisition time period. The analyzer detects a condition of the electrical device based on the snapshot frequency component signal.

Physiological phantoms incorporating feedback sensors and sensing materials

Disclosed herein are physiological phantoms incorporating sensors and sensor materials integrated with a tissue phantom of an anatomical part. The sensors and sensor materials include small diameter optical fibers containing Bragg gratings, thermochromic materials, electrical strain gauges, flexible strain gauges, shape sensing cables, electrochromic materials and etc. The sensors and sensing materials may mimic tissue as part of the tissue phantom. They may mimic the directionality, density, elasticity of the anatomical tissues they may be mimicking. The sensors and sensing materials may be sensitive to strain, heat, electricity, shape, light, and etc. similar to what may occur during medical procedures using various medical devices and tools such as a scalpel, a needle, a deep brain stimulation probe, a port used in brain or spinal surgery and etc.

SYSTEMS, METHODS AND TOOLS FOR THE INTERROGATION OF COMPOSITE STRENGTH MEMBERS

Systems, methods and tools for the interrogation of fiber-reinforced composite strength members to assess the structural integrity of the strength members. The systems and methods utilize the transmission of light through optical fibers that are embedded along the length of the strength members. The inability to detect light through one or more of the optical fibers may be an indication that the structural integrity of the A strength member is compromised. The systems and methods may be implemented without great difficulty and may be implemented at any time in the life cycle of the strength member, from production through installation. The systems and methods have particular applicability to bare overhead electrical cables that include a fiber-reinforced strength member.

Seal and sealing method

The invention relates to a seal containing a substrate which can be applied to an object to be sealed, so that said seal is changed when it is removed without authorization, wherein the substrate contains or comprises a polymer and/or a glass and at least one optical waveguide is arranged in the substrate, at least one first Bragg grating being arranged in said optical waveguide, wherein the substrate has a thickness of less than 200 m. The invention further relates to a system having a seal of this kind and having an evaluation device, and also to a sealing method.

Submarine power cable with curvature monitoring capability

A multi-phase submarine power cable including: a plurality of power cores arranged in a stranded configuration, and a curvature sensor including: an elastic elongated member, and a plurality of Fibre Bragg Grating, FBG, fibres, each FBG fibre extending axially along the elongated member at a radial distance from the centre of the elongated member; wherein the elongated member extends between the stranded power cores along a central axis of the multi-phase submarine power cable.

SYSTEM FOR MONITORING RESIN FLOW

A system for monitoring of the resin front during resin infusion into a fiber preform for the manufacturing of composites. Such monitoring is based on Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry by emitting light pulses through optic fibers which forms a resin infusion mesh in a fiber preform.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF SLOPES
