METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING WATER SAMPLING WITH AN UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE

A UAV capable of sampling a hazardous body of water and a method of using the same is disclosed. The method includes receiving, by an electronic controller of the attached apparatus, a first instruction to lower a sampling device at a specified rate into the body of water. The sampling device is connected to the apparatus via a line, and the sampling device is lowered by unspooling the line from a reel. The method also includes lowering the sampling device at the specified rate into the body of water based on the instruction. The method also includes retrieving the sampling device from the body of water. A line-cutting device can cut the line should the sampling device get caught up in an obstruction.

Fluid sample collection system for pumped fluid source

A fluid sample collection system for directly collecting a fluid sample from a fluid source without exposing the fluid sample to an ambient environment that surrounds the fluid sample collection system includes a fluid collector including (i) a sample vial that is configured to retain fluid from the fluid source, the sample vial including a sample vial body and a vial cap that is selectively coupled and sealed to the sample vial body; (ii) a collector body that defines a passenger vial chamber, the sample vial being positioned at least partially within the passenger vial chamber during collection of the fluid; and (iii) a cap access facilitator that is configured to engage a portion of the sample vial to enable a user to selectively couple the vial cap to the sample vial body to seal the sample vial so that the fluid is retained within the sample vial.

Sampling for monitoring Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in surface water, groundwater and pore water

Methods of passively sampling PFAS in the environment, PFAS sorbents, apparatus and systems (apparatus plus conditions) for sampling groundwater, porewater, and surface water are described.

Method for detection of air-water exchange flux

Disclosed is a method for detection of air-water exchange flux of organic contaminants, which passively and continuously collects contaminants at consecutive points close to a sea surface microlayer, acquires the freely dissolved concentration at the consecutive points of the air and water body close to a water body surface microlayer, and obtains the air-water exchange flux of the contaminants through fitting a self-developed model, wherein the consecutive points include a plurality of sampling points along a height direction above an air-water interface and a plurality of sampling points along a depth direction below the air-water interface. The present invention can be applied to determine the air-water body exchange flux of organic contaminants.

Subsurface environment sampler with actuator movable collection chamber

A Sampler and process for collecting, growing, inoculating and evaluating microbes in-situ. The Sampler may be loaded with an active or inert media to assist with the collection of microbes. It is closed and lowered to a desired depth. Sampler is opened to initiate sampling. Materials are added to the sampler to stimulate growth or change the environment. To collect and grow in situ microbes, the sampler is left open for a period of time, a trigger closes and seals the sampler capturing contents specific to that location. The sampler is lifted preserving the in-situ conditions from the collection location. The contents of the sampler can be interrogated through sealed ports at the field site or at a remote location. The sampler can also be utilized as a biologic reactor allowing researchers to connect laboratory equipment to analyze, modify, or cultivate the collected sample.
