Sheet discriminator, image forming apparatus incorporating same, and image forming system incorporating same to distinguish sheet types
A sheet discriminator, which is incorporated in an image forming apparatus and an image forming system, includes a sheet loader on which a recording medium is loaded, an information detector including a light emitter to emit light to a surface of the recording medium loaded on the sheet loader and a light receiver to receive the light emitted by the light emitter and detecting information of the recording medium, a sheet distinguisher to distinguish a type of the recording medium based on the information detected by the information detector, and a light emission controller to control activation and stop of the light emitter and activate the light emitter before the information detector starts detection of the information of the recording medium.
MICRO OBJECT DETECTION APPARATUS
A micro object detection apparatus includes an optical system. The first optical system includes a first reflection region, a second reflection region, and a light reception element. The first reflection region has an ellipsoidal shape, and reflects scattered light scattered when irradiation light hits a particle to direct the scattered light to the light reception element, by utilizing two focal point positions of the ellipsoidal shape. The second reflection region reflects scattered light coming from the particle to direct the scattered light to the first reflection region, so that the scattered light is directed to the light reception element by utilizing the ellipsoidal shape of the first reflection region. The light flux diameter of the scattered light reflected by the second reflection region is larger than the particle, at the position of the particle at which the scattered light is generated.
Apparatus for use in luminescence applications
Photoluminescence from a sample detector is detected using an array of photo-sensitive detectors. At least one first photo-sensitive detector of the array is provided with a first type of linear polarization filter and at least one second photo-sensitive detector is provided with a second type of linear polarization filter. The first type of linear polarization filter has a plane of polarization which is at angled with respect to a plane of polarization of said second type of polarization filter.
THREE-DIMENSIONAL INSPECTION
A method for measuring 3D coordinates of an object by fusing a reference model of the object with normal vectors determined from three camera images of the object, each of the three camera images viewed through a linear polarizer oriented at a different angle.
SPECTROSCOPIC TISSUE ANALYSIS APPARATUS AND METHODS
An apparatus for spectroscopic tissue analysis is disclosed. The apparatus comprises: a light delivery system configured to direct an excitation signal on to a tissue sample; a light collection system configured to collect a backscattered signal comprising diffuse reflectance photons backscattered by the tissue sample; an imaging device; a spectrometer; an optical adaptor configured to direct a first portion of the backscattered signal to the imaging device and a second portion of the backscattered signal to the spectrometer; and an analysis system configured to apply polar decomposition to spectral image data of the tissue captured by the imaging device and the spectrometer and thereby derive polarization metrics for the tissue sample.
Methods for determining suitability of silicon substrates for epitaxy
Methods for determining suitability of a silicon substrate for epitaxy and/or for determining slip resistance during epitaxy and post-epitaxy thermal treatment are disclosed. The methods involve evaluating different substrates of the epitaxial wafers by imaging the wafer by infrared depolarization. An infrared depolarization parameter is generated for each epitaxial wafer. The parameters may be compared to determine which substrates are well-suited for epitaxial and/or post-epi heat treatments.

SYSTEM, METHOD AND APPLICATIONS INVOLVING IDENTIFICATION OF BIOLOGICAL CIRCUITS SUCH AS NEUROLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Various aspects are directed to systems and methods for assessing neural activity of a neural region having multiple subfields. In certain embodiments, a method includes evoking a cellular electrical response in at least one subfield due to neural activity in the neural region, capturing image data of the electrical response at a level sufficiently detailed in space and time to differentiate between polarization-based events of two respective portions of the subfield, and then assessing neural activity by correlating space and time information, from the captured data, for the two respective portions of the sub-field. Other more specific aspects of the invention involve different preparation and neural stimulation approaches which can vary depending on the application.
