Medical test cards for detecting analytes are provided including a substantially planar body, an analyte detection means, an opening feature, and an optical code. The analyte detection means is enclosed within the planar body and is configured to provide a colorimetric change when a portion of the analyte detection means is contacted with the analyte. The opening feature is configured to provide access to the analyte detection means and the optical code includes information identifying the analyte detection means. Uses of such medical test cards include accessing the analyte detection means enclosed within the planar body by using the opening feature and contacting the analyte detection means with the sample. The optical code is read using an imaging device to identify the analyte detection means and the analyte detection means is imaged following contact with the sample using the imaging device.

Colorimetric assays

A device and a method of using the device for improving sensitivity, speed, and easy-to-use of a colorimetric assay of a liquid sample are provided. The device includes a first plate and a second plate, spacers, and a textured surface. The two plates each have a sample contact surface and are movable relative to each other into an open configuration or a closed configuration. The sample is deposited on one or both plates in the open configuration. Thereafter, the closed configuration is formed where the plates compress at least part of the deposited sample into a continuous layer. The textured surface is disposed on the sample contact surface of the second plate and has a textured structure that scatters light, from which an optical signal such as a colorimetric or fluorescent signal can be obtained for analyzing the sample.

An apparatus for determining the identity and/or quantity of a liquid fuel contained in a fuel transporting tank of a fuel transporting vehicle can comprise: a longitudinally extensive member having a first end and a second end, an internal volume from which liquid fuel in the tank is excluded, and a mounting arrangement configured for mounting in use of the longitudinally extensive member within and in fixed relation to the tank, said second end configured in use to be immersed in the liquid fuel in the tank. The longitudinally extensive member can further comprise: first and second pressure sensors spaced apart by a fixed distance, each said pressure sensor having a face exposed in use to the local hydrostatic pressure of the liquid fuel in the tank; and a colour sensing device comprising a light emitter and a light detector configured to detect light from the emitter, said emitter and detector being arranged such that in use light from the emitter incident on the detector passes through said liquid fuel in the tank. The apparatus can further comprise a data processing device configured to determine the identity of the liquid fuel based on said pressure measurements from said first and second pressure sensors and colour data from said colour sensing device.

The present invention provides a chemical sensor comprising a substrate, a first colorimetric sensor array exposed and arranged in a first accommodating space of the substrate and a second colorimetric sensor array arranged in a second accommodating space of the substrate. The second accommodating space is covered with an isolating layer to isolates liquid molecules but allows gas molecules to pass through. The first colorimetric sensor array changes from a first initial color to a first indicating color according to a volatile part and a non-volatile part of an analyte, and the second colorimetric sensor array changes from a second initial color to a second indicating color according to the volatile part of the analyte, so that information of the volatile part and the non-volatile part of the analyte can be obtained simultaneously.
