Eddy current flaw detection apparatus
The eddy current flaw detection apparatus includes: a pair of detecting coils 10a, 10b arranged in coaxial and spaced relation with a specimen 3; and a bridge circuit two sides of which are constituted by the detecting coils so that magnetic fields generated by these detecting coils 10a, 10b are in opposite phases to each other. A pair of exciting coils 11a, 11b are arranged coaxially with the detecting coils 10a, 10b in a manner to sandwich the pair of detecting coils 10a, 10b therebetween. A distance D between the detecting coil and the exciting coil adjacent thereto is set to a distance where a vibrational noise signal excited in the exciting coil and detected by its adjacent detecting coil is in opposite phase to that of a vibrational noise signal excited in the detecting coil and detected by the detecting coil.

The inspection system includes a plurality of sensors for sensing an electromagnetic response from the test object and generating therefrom a plurality of response signals. The readout circuit can include a plurality of anti-aliasing filters, each configured to receive the response signal from one of the sensors and bandlimit the response signal to produce one of a plurality of bandlimited signals. The readout circuit can also include a time-division multiplexer configured to multiplex the bandlimited signals into a time-division multiplexed (TDM) signal including a sequence of frames outputted at a TDM frame rate, each frame including a plurality of time slots, each time slot assigned to one of the bandlimited signals, wherein the anti-aliasing filters are configured to operate based on the TDM frame rate to attenuate aliasing artifacts in the TDM signal.
Method and apparatus for inspection of corrosion and other defects through insulation
Detection of corrosion and other defects in piping is needed to prevent catastrophic pipeline failure. Sensors, systems and methods are provided to enable detection of such defects. These apparatus and methods are configured to characterize pipe protected by insulation and conductive weather protection. The sensors may utilize inductive and/or solid state sensing element arrays operated in a magnetic field generated in part by a drive winding of the sensor. Multiple excitation frequencies are used to generate the magnetic field and record corresponding sensing element responses. Relatively high excitation frequencies may be used to estimate the properties of the weather protection and sensor lift-off while lower frequencies may be used to detect internal and external pipe damage. Linear arrays may be moved to generate damage images of the pipe providing size and location information for defects. Two dimensional sensor arrays may be used to provide imaging without moving the sensor.
METHOD FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF THE VOLUME OF A TEST OBJECT AND TESTING DEVICE CONFIGURED FOR CARRYING OUT SUCH A METHOD
A method for the non-destructive testing of the volume of a test object, during the course of which a volume raw image of the test object is recorded by a suitable non-destructive imaging testing method. Then, those regions of the volume raw image are identified that are not to be attributed to the test object material. It is checked whether an identified region is completely embedded in regions that are to be associated with the test object material. If necessary, such a region is assimilated to those regions that are to be associated with the test object material, forming a filled volume raw image. Finally, a difference is generated between the volume raw image and the filled volume raw image, forming a first flaw image.
