A tubular spray element for a dishwasher is formed in part using an elongated metal tube joined with a molded polymer support member using one or more retaining tabs that are molded into the support member and that project within a sleeve in the support member to engage with cooperative mounting apertures in the elongated metal tube and thereby restrict relative movement between the elongated metal tube and the support member both about and along a longitudinal axis of the tubular spray element.

A method of controlling a dishwasher including a tub, at least one spray nozzle, a rack, and a microphone, includes: spraying, by the at least one spray nozzle, washing water while the at least one spray nozzle is rotating, analyzing a characteristic of a sound wave input to the microphone, the sound wave being generated based on the washing water colliding with one or more washing targets in the tub, determining whether a washing target made of a set material is present among the one or more washing targets based on the analyzed characteristic, determining, based on determining that the washing target made of the set material is present, a location in which the washing target made of the set material is present according to the analyzed characteristic, and reducing an amount of impact applied to the washing target made of the set material by the washing water.

An automatic dishwasher configured to implement an automatic treating cycle of operation, comprising a tub defining a dish treating chamber, a dish rack located within the dish treating chamber, and a utensil caddy removably mounted to the dish rack. The utensil rack including a first set of utensil holders provided on a first side wall of the utensil caddy and a second set of utensil holders provided on a second side wall of the utensil caddy.

A dish washing machine communication system including a dish washing machine including a housing having a wash space therein, with the dish washing machine including a dish washing machine SMS messaging system, and a remote communicator with a remote communicator SMS messaging system, with the remote communicator being physically separate from the dish washing machine. The remote communicator SMS messaging system of the remote communicator sends instructions and/or requests for information to the dish washing machine SMS messaging system of the dish washing machine in text format. A dishwasher, dishwasher sprayer, and method of spraying utilize a tubular spray element to direct a spray of fluid at one or more drinkware sprayers that are positioned within a wash tub and physically spaced apart from the tubular spray element. Each drinkware sprayer includes one or more outlets in fluid communication with a fluid collector that faces the tubular spray element and that is configured to receive the spray of fluid from the tubular spray element when the tubular spray element is rotated to a predetermined position, and route the received fluid out of the one or more outlets to wash an interior of a drinkware item that is positioned over the drinkware sprayer.

A dishwasher and method for making and/or using the same utilize one or more walking tubular spray elements that may be used to effectively increase the spray coverage area of the tubular spray elements through rotation and/or movement of the walking tubular spray elements in directions other than about the longitudinal axes thereof.
