Simulation Tool for Damage in Composite Laminates
20170322145 · 2017-11-09 ·

A numerical simulation tool for progressive failure in laminates utilizes a low fidelity approach. The numerical model includes an enriched element that is initially in a low fidelity form. The enriched elements may increase fidelity by splitting locally to simulate an ongoing damage process such as delamination.

An embodiment of a system includes an inflatable bladder to apply mechanical force to a stretchable electronics device by the inflation and deflation of the inflatable bladder; a valve unit to control fluid pressure applied to the inflatable bladder; and a control unit to control inflation and deflation of the inflatable bladder.

METHOD FOR AVOIDING EDGE CRACKS
20170259861 · 2017-09-14 · ·

The present disclosure involves a method for determining the critical local expansion of a component with an eye toward the appearance of edge cracks based on an expansion of the component in the shaping process. Given a local expansion of the component at the edges that is smaller than the critical local expansion, no edge cracks arise that are larger than 1 μm. In particular, at least one expansion test is performed with at least one test component, and a critical overall expansion is determined with the at least one expansion test. The local maximum expansion of the test component is determined that the test component exhibits at the time of the critical overall expansion of the test component, and the local maximum expansion is the critical local expansion.

MATERIAL PERFORMANCE TESTING INCLUDING IMPROVED LOAD DETECTION
20210404925 · 2021-12-30 ·

A material testing apparatus includes an actuator to apply a force to a load head according to electronic control signals. The load head supplies a load to a material specimen in a first dimension. A plurality of load line displacement (LLD) reference points extend radially outward from the load head; and a plurality of LLD measuring devices correspond to the plurality of LLD reference points. Each LLD measuring device is positioned to detect a position of a corresponding LLD reference point along the first dimension and is configured to transmit position signals to a controller programmed to perform a performance test on the material specimen using feedback control based on a combination of the position signals, including an average of the position signals.

Method and model for wellbore strengthening by filtercake

Methods for drilling a wellbore into a subterranean formation include preparing a drilling fluid and circulating the drilling fluid in the wellbore while drilling in the subterranean formation, forming a filtercake from the drilling fluid, creating or encountering one or more fractures in the subterranean formation while drilling, and allowing a portion of the filtercake formed to at least partially seal the one or more fractures while continuing the drilling.

DEEP LEARNING-BASED CRACK SEGMENTATION THROUGH HETEROGENEOUS IMAGE FUSION

In an embodiment, a method for detecting cracks in road segments is provided. The method includes: receiving raw range data for a first image by a computing device from an imaging system, wherein the first image comprises a plurality of pixels; receiving raw intensity data for the first image by the computing device from an imaging system; fusing the raw range data and raw intensity data to generate fused data for the first image by the computing device; extracting a set of features from the fused data for the first image by the computing device; providing the set of features to a trained neural network by the computing device; and generating a label for each pixel of the plurality of pixels by the trained neural network, wherein a received label for a pixel indicates whether or not the pixel is associated with a crack.

STRETCH FLANGE CRACK EVALUATION METHOD, METAL SHEET SELECTION METHOD, PRESS DIE DESIGN METHOD, COMPONENT SHAPE DESIGN METHOD, AND PRESSED COMPONENT MANUFACTURING METHOD

A method includes two or more reference strain gradient information being a relationship between the strain at the hole edge and a strain gradient along a radial direction. Hole expansion forming is performed on the evaluation metal sheet under the same forming conditions as respective forming conditions corresponding to at least two pieces of the reference strain gradient information to obtain at least two limit hole expansion ratios at a hole expansion limit of the evaluation metal sheet. A formable region of the evaluation metal sheet is obtained from the at least two pieces of the reference strain gradient information and the obtained at least two limit hole expansion ratios at the hole expansion limit. Stretch flange cracking at the sheared end face of the evaluation metal sheet is evaluated by the obtained formable region.

ANTI-BUCKLING JIG FOR FRACTURE TOUGHNESS TEST

Disclosed is an anti-buckling jig of a fracture toughness test. The anti-buckling jig includes: a first jig unit provided in a form of surrounding one side surface of a specimen; a second jig unit provided in a form of surrounding the other side surface of the specimen; and a screw provided to allow the first jig unit and the second jig unit to be coupled to each other. During the fracture toughness test of the specimen, the first jig unit and the second jig unit simultaneously support both sides of the specimen, so that the specimen is cracked in a single direction.
