METHOD OF TESTING LONGITUDINAL SUBMERGED ARC WELDED PIPE SUSCEPTIBILITY THROUGH-THICKNESS HYDROGEN CRACKING
A method including obtaining a metal pipe with a longitudinal submerged arc weld, an axis of the longitudinal submerged arc weld being oriented parallel to a rotationally symmetric axis of the metal pipe and cutting a first test beam and a second test beam from the metal pipe with each test beam extending on both sides of the axis of the longitudinal submerged arc weld and has a cuboid shape. The method further including forming a double-beam assembly by clamping two spacers between the first and second test beams such that the two spacers are symmetrically disposed at an equal distance on either side the longitudinal submerged arc weld. The method further including immersing the double-beam assembly in a liquid test solution for a predetermined period of time before removing it from the liquid test solution and disassembling the double-beam. The method further including examining the first and the second test beam using a metallographic sectioning method.
METHODS OF DETERMINING SHEAR STRENGTH OF BONDED FREE AIR BALLS ON WIRE BONDING MACHINES
A method of determining a shear strength of a bonded free air ball on a wire bonding machine is provided. The method includes the steps of: (a) providing a free air ball at a working end of a wire bonding tool; (b) bonding the free air ball to a bonding location of a workpiece; (c) moving the wire bonding tool, while in contact with the bonded free air ball, in a direction along the bonding location; (d) monitoring wire bonding process signals during step (c); and (e) determining a shear strength using the wire bonding process signals monitored in step (d).
SOLDER JOINT LIFE PREDICTOR AND SOLDER JOINT LIFE PREDICTION METHOD
A control device including a solder joint life predictor includes: a temperature sensor that measures temperature of a solder joint on an electronic circuit board that drives a heater and a motor; a storage that stores a reference acceleration factor that is an acceleration factor based on a test condition of a thermal shock test and a reference condition in an environment in which the electrical appliance is used; a calculator that calculates an actual acceleration factor from a temperature variation range and a maximum reached temperature of the solder joint during one cycle from start to end of driving of the heater or the motor; and a determiner that predicts the life of the solder joint by comparing the integrated value of the acceleration factor ratios with a threshold.
Inspection apparatus, inspection system, inspection method, and storage medium
According to one embodiment, an inspection apparatus determines an object to be in a first state when an intensity at a first frequency of a frequency characteristic is not less than a first threshold, and determines the object to be in a second state when the intensity at the first frequency is less than the first threshold. The frequency characteristic is generated based on a vibration of the object when the object is struck. The second state is different from the first state.
Method of testing ERW pipe weld seam for susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement
A method of managing a tubular having a seam that exhibits signs of hydrogen induced cracking that extends radially along the seam, and which is different from classic step-wise cracking. Included in the method is evaluating the strength and ductility specimens taken from the tubular that have been hydrogen charged; and which provides an indication if the seam is susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement. The strength is evaluated by comparing tensile strength of the hydrogen charged specimen with that specified in an industry standard, such as API 5L. The ductility is evaluated based on comparing percent elongation of the hydrogen charged specimen with percent elongation of a specimen obtained from the tubular and not hydrogen charged. Tubulars with seams found susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement would not be put into sour service, whereas those found not susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement can be put in a sour service.
METHOD FOR WELD PERFORMANCE VALIDATION
Methods are provided for joint performance validation and include preparing a coupon from a blank by bending the blank to have a pair of legs disposed at substantially ninety degrees relative to each other. Another coupon is prepared by forming an opening in a segment of another blank and bending the segment approximately ninety degrees. The segment is disposed adjacent an end of the second blank. A test sample is prepared by joining the coupons together at a joint with a leg attached to the segment approximately at a center of the leg. The test sample is subjected to a force test to generate data for the performance validation.
JOINING STATE DETECTION FILM, JOINING STATE DETECTION DEVICE, AND JOINING STATE DETECTION METHOD
An object is to provide a joining state detection film, a joining state detection device, and a joining state detection method, capable of detecting a joining state of a joining portion of two members from the outside. [Solution] A film containing a mechanoluminescent substance is formed on a surface, on a side opposite to a joining surface, of at least one member of two members that are joined at joining parts each having the joining surface, and physical stimulation is applied thereto.
WELD TEST PLUGS AND METHODS OF USE
A weld test plug has a flange; an actuator rod mounted to the flange, the actuator rod having: a part expander; an annular seal; and an axial stop; in which the actuator rod is connected to, during use, cause the part expander to actuate: the axial stop to move in a radially outward direction relative to the actuator rod; and the annular seal to radially expand and abut the axial stop. A method includes inserting an actuator rod into an open end of a vessel, the actuator rod carrying an annular seal, and an axial stop; sealing the open end of the vessel around the actuator rod; operating the actuator rod to actuate: the axial stop to move in a radially outward direction relative to the actuator rod; and the annular seal to radially expand to abut the axial stop and seal against an inner circumferential surface of the vessel.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INSPECTING SECONDARY BONDS IN LAMINATED PARTS
Disclosed herein is a method of inspecting a secondary bond of a laminated part. The method comprises positioning the laminated part within a sealed chamber. The method also comprises reducing a pressure within the sealed chamber to below a pressure outside the sealed chamber when the laminated part is positioned within the sealed chamber. The method further comprises, when the pressure within the sealed chamber is reduced to below the pressure outside the sealed chamber, measuring a gradient of change of a surface profile of the laminated part. The method additionally comprises determining a condition of the secondary bond based on the gradient of change of the surface profile of the laminated part.
