Auto switching referral matrices in determining process material concentration
10684153 · 2020-06-16 · ·

A device and method to automatically switch referral matrices in a meter (120) to identify an unknown material circulating in a process application (900) and determine the material concentration, whether it may be a cleaning material or a process material. The present invention utilizes a measured line density and line temperature of the material along with a reference temperature to calculate a reference density. Using the reference temperature and reference density, a concentration percentage of the material may be determined.

ULTRASONIC MEASUREMENTS FOR MULTIPHASE FLUIDS
20200173822 · 2020-06-04 ·

Ultrasonic measurements are made of a multiphase fluid (oil, water and gas) in pipe or conduits with high values of gas content in the multiphase fluid. Ultrasonic transceivers are positioned around the pipe wall in acoustic contact with the fluid system. The fluid flow is caused to move in a vortex or swirling flow with vortex inducing elements located in the pipe upstream of the transceivers, forcing the gas phase to a cylindrical area at the center of multiphase flow in the pipe, with water and oil multiphase fluid components forming an outer annular flow. Measures of cross sectional composition of the gas portion of multiphase fluid are provided based on the reflected waves from the interface. Tomographic images of the relative presence and position of the three fluid phases are also formed.

Quartz crystal characterization of fractions derived from cracked streams

Methods are provided for characterizing the stability of a distillate fraction using a quartz crystal microbalance apparatus, such as a distillate fraction derived at least in part from a pre-refined crude oil. A sample can be aged for an aging period in a quartz crystal microbalance apparatus, and a frequency value for the sample in the quartz crystal microbalance apparatus can be determined before and after the aging period to determine a frequency difference. This frequency difference can be correlated directly with the ability of a jet fuel fraction to satisfy a stability test standard, such as a jet fuel breakpoint stability. The methods can also include using a temperature profile during characterization that can reduce or minimize operator error during the characterization.

Flow data acquisition and telemetry processing system

Processing electronics provide flow data acquisition and telemetry for multiphase flow tomographic ultrasonic transceiver arrays. The processing electronics forms pulse drive signals to cause a tomographic pulse sequence to be emitted. Selected ones of an array of the ultrasonic transceivers emit ultrasonic energy in the tomographic pulse sequence for travel through the multiphase flow. The selected transmitting transceiver is isolated while transmitting it, and the remaining the transceivers are enabled to receive measures of the emitted pulse is after travel through the multiphase flow.

Flow data acquisition and telemetry processing systems

Processing electronics provide flow data acquisition and telemetry for multiphase flow tomographic arrays. The processing electronics convert sensed flow condition data obtained by ultrasonic transceiver tomography arrays into a serial digital data to minimize both the number of external feedthroughs and also the bandwidth required for transmission. The processing electronics also sends the full measured waveforms from each of the transceivers in the tomographic arrays.
