Testing cement shear bond strength at reservoir conditions

Systems and methods for testing shear bond strength of cement with a composite sample under downhole conditions form a bonding surface of the sample oriented at an angle between 50 and 70 degrees from a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the sample. The composite sample is formed by bonding the cement to the sample with the cement in contact with the bonding surface of the sample.

PHASED ARRAY EMAT TRANSDUCER FOR GENERATION OF SHEAR HORIZONTAL WAVES
20220111417 · 2022-04-14 ·

A system for non-destructive inspection that generates Shear Horizontal waves in phased array configuration using an Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT). The system includes an EMAT transducer with a plurality of elements made of individually wound elements under a single magnetic field, and an instrument to pulse, receive and record the signals from each element separately. Each wired element in the array generates shear waves perpendicularly to the coil windings which radiate around the elements' long axis. By phasing the pulsing and receiving of the individual elements, the beam can be electronically focused at different angles in the component from 0° to +/−90°. The compact distribution of the array permit using relatively high frequencies without generating deleterious grating lobes.

COILED WIRE INSPECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
20220018814 · 2022-01-20 ·

A system and method of ultrasonically inspecting coiled wire includes a wire drawer, a first power feeder, an ultrasonic inspection device, and a re-coiler. The wire drawer receives wire that is unspooled from a first coil of wire that has not been internally inspected for defects. The wire is then fed through the first power feeder, which straightens the wire. The straightened wire is then fed through the ultrasonic inspection device to detect internal defects of the wire. The inspected wire is then re-coiled into a second coil of wire that has been ultrasonically inspected for internal defects. Accordingly, raw and uninspected wire coils can be continuously conditioned and inspected and then re-coiled, and may be certified for use in specific manufacturing processes, without having to inspect individual cut and separated sections of wire.

SCALE AND CORROSION MONITORING SYSTEM USING ULTRASONIC GUIDED WAVES

A nondestructive method of monitoring scale buildup in a section of pipe includes: transmitting, from a first transducer at a first location of the pipe, axisymmetric torsional ultrasonic guided waves (UGWs) to propagate along the pipe, the torsional UGWs spanning a frequency band comprising multiple higher order modes; receiving, by a second transducer at a second location of the pipe, the propagated torsional UGWs; and determining a thickness of the scale buildup in the pipe between the first location and the second locations using the received torsional UGWs. The determining step comprises: measuring attributes from the received torsional UGWs, the attributes being first arrival times or mode cutoff frequencies; comparing the measured attributes to sets of computed said attributes, each set representing a different scale buildup thickness; and selecting the compared set of computed attributes that is closest to the measured attributes.

ULTRASONIC PROBE

An ultrasonic probe comprises a transmitting transducer, a receiving transducer, an absorber, a transmitting and receiving transducer including a transmitting unit and a receiving unit, and a wedge. The wedge includes a first holding part holding the transmitting transducer, a second holding part holding the receiving transducer, an absorber holding part disposed between the first holding part and the second holding part and holding the absorber, and a third holding part disposed on the opposite side of the first holding part from the absorber holding part and holding the transmitting and receiving transducer at an angle allowing ultrasound transmitted from the transmitting and receiving transducer to propagate as surface waves along a surface area of a test object.

ELECTROMAGNETIC ULTRASONIC DOUBLE-WAVE TRANSDUCER

An electromagnetic ultrasonic double wave transducer, comprising a shell (1), and a permanent magnet assembly, a coil (4), a shielding layer (5), and a wire (6) which are provided in the shell (1). The permanent magnet assembly comprises a first permanent magnet (2) and a second permanent magnet (3) sleeved on the first permanent magnet (2). The magnetizing directions of the first permanent magnet (2) and the second permanent magnet (3) are perpendicular to the bottom of the shell (1), and the magnetic field directions of the first permanent magnet (2) and the second permanent magnet (3) are opposite. A non-conducting non-magnetic bushing material (9) is provided between the first permanent magnet (2) and the second permanent magnet (3), and upper end faces of the first permanent magnet (2) and the second permanent magnet (3) realize magnetic circuit closing by means of a magnetic circuit closing element (8). The coil (4) is fixed on the bottom of the shell (1) and is located below the first permanent magnet (2). The shielding layer (5) is provided between the lower end of the first permanent magnet (2) and the coil (4) and below the second permanent magnet (3). One end of the wire (6) is connected to the coil (4), and the other end is connected to the power supply and signal plug (7). The electromagnetic ultrasonic double-wave transducer can simultaneously stimulate longitudinal wave and transverse wave on the surface of the part to be inspected, and the inspection accuracy is improved.

A reference block for ultrasonic shear waves calibration, comprising slots, wherein the reference block has at least two different thicknesses, each thickness comprising two cavities with at least one slot being provided at each cavity. Preferably, the reference block comprises a plurality of steps, each step defining a different thickness.

System and method for shear wave elastography by transmitting ultrasound with subgroups of ultrasound transducer elements

Systems and methods for performing shear wave elastography using push and/or detection ultrasound beams that are generated by subsets of the available number of transducer elements in an ultrasound transducer. These techniques provide several advantages over currently available approaches to shear wave elastography, including the ability to use a standard, low frame rate ultrasound imaging system and the ability to measure shear wave speed throughout the entire field-of-view rather than only those regions where the push beams are not generated.
