Magneto-optical system for guided wave inspection and monitoring
The present application describes a magneto-optical based guided waves system for inspection and monitoring of assets. The system has a magnetostrictive-based wave emitter for signal generation and a network of optical fiber sensors for detection, both mechanically coupled to the asset, a device with embedded software for hardware control and signal processing, and a framework capable of providing visual and analytic insights about the condition of the structure of interest. The enhancement of flaw detection, location and characterization abilities of the system are obtained through the use of high sensitivity and passive fiber optics sensors with very small size, distributed and multi-parameter sensing capabilities.

The base and the tine are formed from a piezoelectric material including lithium tantalate. The electrodes are exposed to a fluid.
METHOD OF DETERMINING DIMENSIONS OF FEATURES OF A SUBSURFACE TOPOGRAPHY, SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPY SYSTEM AND COMPUTER PROGRAM
The present document relates to a method to determine dimensions of features of a subsurface topography of a sample, the features having a spatial periodicity. The subsurface topography is obtained using scanning probe microscopy. The method includes obtaining measurement values of an acoustic output signal in at least N locations and generating a location dependent subsurface topography signal. The method further comprises providing an autocorrelation matrix by performing a cross-correlation of the subsurface topography signal in respect of each further location to yield the autocorrelation matrix having size N*N. Thereafter, the method includes performing an Eigenvalue decomposition for obtaining Eigenvalues of the matrix, and selecting a subset of Eigenvalues having the largest values. From these a frequency estimation function is constructed and at least one output value indicative of the spatial periodicity is obtained therefrom. The document also describes a scanning probe microscopy system and a computer program product.
Flexural Wave Measurement for Thick Casings
Systems and methods are provided for obtaining a flexural-attenuation measurement for cement evaluation that may be effective even for wells with relatively thick casings. A method includes emitting an acoustic signal at a casing in a well that excites the casing into generating an acoustic response signal containing acoustic waves, such as Lamb waves. The Lamb waves include flexural waves and extensional waves. The casing may be relatively large, having a thickness of at least 16 mm. The acoustic response signal may be detected and filtered to reduce a relative contribution of the extensional waves. This may correspondingly increase a relative contribution of the flexural waves. The filtered acoustic response signal may be used as a flexural-attenuation measurement for cement evaluation.
Miniaturized integrated micro electo-mechanical systems (MEMS) optical sensor array for viscosity and mass detection
The present invention relates generally to the field of chemical and biological sensors and in particular to micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors for measuring fluid viscosity and detection of minute amounts of chemicals and biological agents in fluids. It is an object of the present invention to provide a sensor that will work in disposable cartridges with remote sensing that can measure dynamic changes of the functionalized cantilevers in liquid and gas environment.
CONTACT ELEMENTS FOR ACOUSTIC EXCITATION ATTACHED VIA A COMPLIANT MATERIAL
A system includes: an acoustic exciter; a compliant material applied to the acoustic exciter to configure the acoustic exciter for triggering acoustic excitation of at least part of a substrate; a sensor configured to receive an acoustic response of the acoustic excitation; and circuitry configured to determine at least one characteristic of the substrate using the acoustic response.
Sensor system for corrosion monitoring
A permanently installed monitoring system for corrosion under insulation (PIMSCUI) and a method for performing the monitoring of said system are provided. The objective of the invention by a fiber optic cable permanently mounted between walls of a pipeline and pipeline insulation surrounding the pipeline and placement of acoustic emitters along the length of the pipeline in mechanical contact with the optical fiber. The acoustic emitters send a pulsed acoustic signal towards the pipeline which is received by the optical fiber, the acoustic signal subsequently travels through the pipeline wall, reflecting from the inner diameter of the pipeline before the reflected pulse is received at the optical fiber.

Various embodiments of a bio-inspired robot operable for detecting crack and corrosion defects in tubular structures are disclosed herein.
Biosensor and method of manufacturing such a biosensor
A method of manufacturing a biosensor having a microbeam linked to a support, at least one electrode a biological molecule A grafted onto the microbeam in a different zone from the zone where the electrode is embedded, and a mechanoelectrical transducer for converting variations of the mechanical properties of the microbeam into an electrical signal, when the biological molecule A is placed in contact with a biological molecule B to be detected and/or quantified. The method includes: formation of an electrode on fluoropolymer material sheet, passivation of the electrode(s), creation of the form of the biosensor in the sheet of polymer material and separation of this form from the sheet, functionalization either of a prefunctionalized zone or of a zone of the microbeam, this zone being different from the zone wherein the electrode is embedded, and grafting of a biological molecule A onto the functionalized zone.
