METHOD FOR DETECTING A DEFECT IN A METAL WIRE OF A SET OF METAL WIRES, IN PARTICULAR FOR AN ANCHORING AREA OF A CIVIL ENGINEERING STRUCTURE
The invention relates to a method for detecting defects of at least one metal wire of a set of metal wires, in particular in a cable, the method including: a step of emitting a high-frequency ultrasound signal around a so-called specific frequency in the metal wire; a step of reflecting said ultrasound signal in the metal wire; and a step of receiving the reflected ultrasound signal. The emitted ultrasound signal enables the energisation of at least one high-frequency wave capable of propagating in a longitudinal direction of the metal wire and having a phase velocity that is slightly higher than a compression volume wave velocity in the metal from which the metal wire is made.
SHEAR WAVE SENSORS FOR ACOUSTIC EMISSION AND HYBRID GUIDED WAVE TESTING
A system includes at least one circumferentially-polarized d.sub.15 shear ring transducer and a controller electrically coupled to the at least one circumferentially-polarized d.sub.15 shear ring transducer. The at least one circumferentially-polarized d.sub.15 shear ring transducer is configured to be disposed on a structure and to detect at least one shear horizontal-type acoustic emission from damage to the structure. The controller includes a machine-readable storage medium and a processor in signal communication with the machine-readable storage medium. The processor is configured to store acoustic emission signal data in the machine-readable storage medium when a signal amplitude detected by the at least one circumferentially-polarized d15 shear ring transducer crosses a first threshold.
Acoustic emission inspection system for detecting elastic waves in inspected objects
An inspection system includes one or more sensors. The one or more sensors detect second elastic waves emitted to the outside of a shaft-shaped inspection object due to first elastic waves propagating through the shaft-shaped inspection object. The one or more sensors are fixedly placed at positions away from the shaft-shaped inspection object and the directivity direction of the sensor is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to an axial line of the shaft-shaped inspection object.
ACOUSTIC MONITOR FOR POWER TRANSMISSION LINES
An acoustic monitor detects and logs events based on the acoustic characteristics of the event. The acoustic monitor is placed on a power transmission tower, and a baseline acoustic signature is established. Events can be defined by variance from the baseline, or by matching one of a set of predefined acoustic signatures. When an event is detected, the acoustic monitor logs the event. A repair person queries the acoustic monitors to narrow down where the event occurred to be between two towers, and can then query the acoustic monitors on those two towers. Using the timestamps of the event in each of the towers, and using the known speed of sound in air, the repair person can quickly calculate the location of the event from both towers. By knowing the location of the event, the repair person knows exactly how to quickly access the location to make the needed repairs.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING OUTER JOINT MEMBER FOR CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JOINT AND OUTER JOINT MEMBER
Provided is a method of manufacturing an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint, which is constructed by welding a cup member and a shaft member, the method including: forming the cup member and the shaft member of medium carbon steel; preparing; preparing; bringing the joining end surface of the cup member and the joining end surface of the shaft member into abutment against each other; welding the cup member and the shaft member; and performing, after the welding, ultrasonic flaw detection-inspection from any one of a surface side of the cup member and a surface side of the shaft member, which has the another one of the joining end surface of the cup member and the joining end surface of the shaft member.
Non-contact signal propagation property evaluation of synthetic fiber rope
A non-contact evaluation system for evaluating a rope. The system including a transducer and a processor. The transducer is spaced apart from the rope. The transducer configured to output an ultrasonic wave in a transverse direction towards a longitudinal location of the rope, such that at least a portion of the ultrasonic wave passes around a perimeter of the rope, receive the portion of the ultrasonic wave, convert the portion of the ultrasonic wave to a signal, and output the signal. The processor configured to receive the signal, and evaluate the rope based on the signal.
CONTROL VALVE MONITORING SYSTEM
A control valve monitoring system is disclosed. The control valve monitoring system includes at least one sensor connected to one of a valve stem or valve shaft, and the at least one sensor detects a change in mechanical integrity of one of the valve stem or valve shaft. A device for providing data regarding the change in mechanical integrity of one of the valve stem or valve shaft is provided, allowing maintenance of the valve shaft or valve stem to be conducted in an efficient manner.
NON-CONTACT DURABILITY DIAGNOSIS APPARATUS AND METHOD
A non-contact durability diagnosis apparatus includes: (a) applying non-contactly and sequentially at least two excitation ultrasonic waves to an object and storing frequency signals generated from the object; (b) applying non-contactly and simultaneously the at least two excitation ultrasonic waves to the object and storing frequency signals generated from the object; (c) storing derived frequency signals remaining after removing an overlapping portion of the frequency signals of step (a) and the frequency signals of step (b); and (d) determining that the object is damaged when at least one of the generated frequency signals of step (c) is larger than a predetermined value.
