Endoscopic LED light source having a feedback control system

A method for providing light to an endoscope includes emitting light from a plurality of light emitting diodes, filtering the light with a plurality of dichroic filter elements, collimating and mixing light received from the dichroic filter elements into a combined light, sensing the combined light at a color sensor and determining a sensed color balance of the combined light, comparing the sensed color balance with a predetermined color balance, and varying at least one power signal to control a light intensity output by at least one of the plurality of light emitting diodes so that the sensed color balance corresponds to the predetermined color balance.

Vision Sensor Apparatus

A hand-held vision sensor apparatus comprises a plurality of light sources, control activation elements and an image sensing array, encased within a housing such that the control activation elements are disposed at a user-accessible location on the housing. The housing further includes a pair of exit apertures for emitting illumination directed toward a medical specimen and an entrance aperture for capturing reflected light from the medical specimen. The light sources are disposed in alignment with the pair of exit apertures, and the image sensing array is aligned with the entrance aperture. The control activation elements are utilized to energize the light sources and control the functioning of the image sensing array. A computer port may be included and used to communicate command controls to the light sources, image sensing array and control activation elements in a manner that allows for a remotely-located technician to communicate with the hand-held vision sensor.

Methods and Systems for Controlling Cooperative Surgical Instruments with Variable Surgical Site Access Trajectories

Systems, devices, and methods for controlling cooperative surgical instruments with variable surgical site access trajectories are provided. Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for coordinated operation of surgical instruments accessing a common surgical site from different approach and/or separate body cavities to achieve a common surgical purpose. For example, various methods, devices, and systems disclosed herein can enable the coordinated treatment of tissue by disparate minimally invasive surgical systems that approach the tissue from varying anatomical spaces and must operate differently, but in concert with one another, to effect a desired surgical treatment.

Light cable cap and method of using the same

A medical device reduces the risk of operating room fires caused by light sources by shielding the illuminated light cable from directly interacting with surgical drapes or patient skin. The device includes a silicone housing that mates circumferentially over existing endoscopic light cables and a thermal insulator can be positioned over the light emitting tip of the cable.
