MALARIA DETECTION METHOD AND DEVICE
An method of malaria detection includes providing an interdigitated sensor having a first electrode with a plurality of fingers and a second electrode with a plurality of fingers, interspersed and spaced apart from the fingers of the first electrode. A quantity of blood to be tested is received on the sensor. The blood is to be dried and is measured for at least one measurable characteristic, including a resistance of the blood. The presence of malaria infected blood is determined based on a comparison between the measurable characteristics and a predetermined threshold related to the measurable characteristics.

3D cell cultures contain hepatic cells and are infected by a pathogen. Such cell cultures are prepared by, for example, inoculating a single-cell suspension containing hepatic cells expanded in a 2D culture in an agitation-based culture system. Next, the resulting cell culture is agitated at a given agitation rate. Then, the resulting 3D cell culture containing cell aggregates is incubated with a pathogen.
Blood analyzer and blood analyzing method for determining if plasmodium infection is present
Disclosed is a blood analyzer that includes: a sample preparation unit configured to mix a blood specimen and a fluorescent dye for staining nucleic acid to prepare a measurement sample; a light receiver configured to receive fluorescence and scattered light that are generated by light being applied to the measurement sample prepared by the sample preparation unit; and a controller programmed to determine whether or not infection with Plasmodium has occurred, on the basis of a value representing variation of a distribution of first particles in a range where single-ring form of red blood cells appear, the range where single-ring form of red blood cells appear being identified according to fluorescence intensities and scattered light intensities obtained by processing of signals from the light receiver.
SYSTEM, METHOD, APPARATUS AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR PLASMODIUM VIVAX
A system, method, apparatus and diagnostic test for Plasmodium vivax, to determine a likelihood of a specific timing of infection by P. vivax in a subject, and hence identify individuals with a high probability of being infected with otherwise undetectable liver-stage hypnozoites. The system, method, apparatus and diagnostic test relate to the identification of hypnozoites (“dormant” liver-stages), or at least of the likelihood of the subject being so infected. Optionally and preferably, the specific timing relates to recent infections, for example within the last 9 months.
Malaria species detection
A diagnostic system that includes a cartridge and a reader. The cartridge can contain a patient sample, such as a blood sample. The cartridge is inserted into the reader and the patient sample is analyzed. The sample can be processed for data collection and analysis to provide interpretative results indicative of a disorder, condition, disease or infection of the patient. For example, the data collection and analysis can determine one or more hemozoin characteristics.

DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A point-of-care diagnostic system that includes a cartridge and a reader. The cartridge can contain a patient sample, such as a blood sample. The cartridge is inserted into the reader and the patient sample is analyzed. The reader contains various analysis systems, such as a magneto-optical system that measures a light transmission differential through the patient sample in varying magnetic fields. The reader can process data from the various patient sample analysis to provide interpretative results indicative of a disease, infection and/or condition of the patient.
Aggregation-assisted separation of plasma from whole blood
Methods for separating blood plasma from whole blood in the absence of performing centrifugation are provided. The method combines mechanical filtration and blood cell aggregation and is adapted for use in POC clinical testing.

PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM AND PLASMODIUM VIVAX VACCINE
The present invention relates to a vaccine V comprising (A) at least one isolated polypeptide strand P comprising or consisting of at least nine consecutive amino acid moieties of the repetitive organellar protein, putative of Plasmodium falciparum or the hypothetical protein PVNG_04523 of Plasmodium vivax or a polynucleotide strand encoding for such polypeptide; and (B) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. Furthermore, the present invention refers to an antibody binding to the repetitive organellar protein, putative of Plasmodium falciparumor the hypothetical protein PVNG_04523 of Plasmodium vivax or a polynucleotide strand encoding therefor, to a method of generating such antibody and uses thereof.
