An endoscope having an articulated bending section body including a number of segments, the segments having a central passage adapted in cross-sectional shape to receive and support the exterior surface of a bendable tubular member providing a working channel of the endoscope. The cross-sectional shape includes a number of sectors of a circular periphery having a shared center and the same radius, the total length of said sectors being longer than half of said circular periphery, so as to provide said support for the exterior of the bendable tubular member providing the working channel of the endoscope. The cross-sectional shape includes at least one outwardly extending lobe in which a coil spring is accommodated.

BENDING OPERATION MECHANISM FOR ENDOSCOPE, AND ENDOSCOPE

A bending operation mechanism includes an operation lever, a wire pulling member, a pulling wire, a cylinder, and a pulley, and the pulley is disposed with a predetermined rotation shaft tilted so that an extended line of the predetermined rotation shaft intersects with the cylinder.

Portable endoscope with disposable steerable cannula

A handheld endoscope has a disposable, single-use portion that includes a fluid hub, cannula, distal tip and is steerable by the operator though actuation of one or two levers. The endoscope also includes re-usable portion that has a handle and display module. The distal tip includes LED illumination and an imaging module that feeds live video to the display module that is rotatable to allow viewing by the operator and others. The single-use and re-usable portions mate and un-mate with each other via physically separated mechanical and electrical connectors. The single use portion can include grasper device that can be actuated by an operator using an actuation tab.

PULL-CABLE MANAGEMENT FOR STEERABLE CATHETER

A steerable catheter comprises a transducer that is situated at a flexible distal end, and is coupled to the handle of the catheter via an insertion tube. The flexible distal end is controlled by a plurality of articulation pull-cables that extend from an articulation control device in the handle to the far end of the distal end, such that when one articulation pull-cable is pulled, and the opposing articulation pull-cable is slackened, the flexible distal end bends in the direction of the tensioned articulation pull-cable. To minimize pull-resistance over time, while still providing insertion-tube flexibility, inserts having pull-cable lumens are situated in the insertion tube to isolate each articulation pull-cable from each other, and from other cables that couple the transducer to the handle.
