MEDICAL ARTICULATION DEVICES AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME

A medical device that includes a handle, a shaft extending distally from the handle, an end effector extending distally from the shaft, and a first actuator coupled to the handle and secured to a first wire. The first wire extends through the shaft, and the first actuator is configured to pivot relative to the shaft to pull the first wire proximally and to deflect the end effector relative to the shaft.

ADJUSTABLE STIFFNESS MEDICAL DEVICES

A medical device may include: a shaft configured to be inserted into a body lumen of a subject; a handle at a proximal end of the shaft, the handle including an adjustment mechanism configured to be transitioned from a first configuration, in which the shaft has a first stiffness, to a second configuration, in which the shaft has a second stiffness. The first stiffness may be different from the second stiffness.

PORTABLE AND ERGONOMIC ENDOSCOPE WITH DISPOSABLE CANNULA

An endoscopic system includes a single-use portion and a multiple-use portion. The two portions can be mated and un-mated. The single-use portion includes an elongated cannula that has a bendable section near its distal end providing a “steerable” distal tip. The distal tip includes LED illumination and an imaging module that feeds live video to a display screen forming which forms part of the multiple-use portion. Ergonomically designed steering control and significant portions of the steering structure reside in the multiple-use portion. The cannula is configured to rotate, which further expands the field of view when combined with steering deflection along a single axis. Some embodiments, include motorized distal tip deflection and/or omni-directional tip deflection.

Vivo visualization system

Several embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to medical visualization systems that comprise combinations of disposable and reusable components, such as catheters, functional handles, hubs, optical devices, etc. Other embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to features and aspects of an in-vivo visualization system that comprises an endoscope having a working channel through which a catheter having viewing capabilities is routed. the catheter may obtain viewing capabilities by being constructed as a vision catheter or by having a fiberscope or other viewing device selectively routed through one of its channels. The catheter is preferably of the steerable type so that the distal end of the catheter may be steered from its proximal end as it is advanced with the body. A suitable use for the in-vivo visualization system includes but is not limited to diagnosis and/or treatment of the duodenum, and particularly the biliary tree.

An endoscope made by a method for fixation of portions of steering wire of the endoscope, the steering wire having a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, the method including positioning the second wire portion and the third wire portion of the steering wire adjacent to each other, applying an adhesive, at least partly enclosing the second wire portion, the third wire portion, and the adhesive with a crimp shell, and applying a crimping force to the crimp shell to crimp the crimp shell, the second wire portion, and the third wire portion to thereby fixate the second wire portion in relation to the third wire portion.

ACTUATOR FOR AN ENDOSCOPIC PROBE, ENDOSCOPIC PROBE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN ACTUATOR OF AN ENDOSCOPIC PROBE

The invention relates to an actuator for an endoscopic probe, an endoscopic probe and a method for controlling an actuator of an endoscopic probe. The actuator is provided with an elongate shape memory wire (2) consisting of a shape memory alloy, with an electrical conductor (5) which is electrically conductively connected to the shape memory wire (2) and supplies the shape memory wire (2) with current, with a wire insulation (3) which surrounds at least some sections of the shape memory wire (2) and consists of an electrically insulating material and with a flexible sheath (4) which is pressure-resistant in the longitudinal direction of the shape memory wire (2). The shape memory wire (2) converts the electrical energy of the current flowing through said shape memory wire into thermal energy. Under the influence of this heat, the shape memory wire (2) changes its length from a first length to a second length. The sheath (4) forms a guide for the shape memory wire (2) and a counterbearing for supporting the tensile forces to be transmitted which are effective as a result of the change in shape of the shape memory wire (2).

Hydraulically driven surgical apparatus

A hydraulically driven surgical apparatus may be a tube enclosing a first channel filled with a first fluid. Changing a fluid pressure in the first channel may trigger a deformation of the tube. The deformation of the tube may perform an action associated with a surgical procedure. Related methods for steering a hydraulically driven surgical apparatus are also provided.

ENDOSCOPE TIP PART

An endoscope tip part for an endoscope for visually inspecting inaccessible places, including a tip housing enclosing a sealed interior space and including a transparent portion; an image sensor viewing in an optical direction through the transparent portion of the tip housing; a light guide component having a light entry surface and a light exit surface; a first light source having a light-emitting surface and being configured to emit light from the light-emitting surface in a central illumination direction; and an electrical circuit in electrical communication with the image sensor and the first light source, wherein the first light source, the image sensor, and the electrical circuit are accommodated in the sealed interior space of the tip housing, wherein the first light source is attached to the light guide component.

Steerable instrument comprising a detachable part

A steering device for connecting to an elongated instrument comprises a locking plate with a coupling to which a steering plate of the instrument can secure such that the steering plate and the locking plate move together; and a steering unit for moving the locking plate. The elongated instrument comprises a plurality of elongated elements extending along an instrument shaft and secured to a steering plate at a proximal end of the instrument shaft, with the steering plate being movably connected around a support member secured to the shaft.
