Controller-Based Apparatus and Method for Diagnosis and Treatment of Acquired Brain Injury and Dysfunction
A controller-based apparatus for diagnosis and treatment of a subject with acquired brain injury and dysfunction. Various embodiments of the invention described herein recognize that different body postures affect the autonomic nervous system differently, and therefore various external stimuli may have different therapeutic efficacies when a patient or subject is in each body posture. Postures, such as walking, sitting, standing, prone and supine, have different effects on the autonomic nervous system, and therefore some stimuli have different physiological efficacies while a patient or subject is in a given body posture. Disclosed embodiments of the present invention leverage this relationship to provide a controller-based apparatus that determines a combination of posture and stimulus that has optimal therapeutic effect, while minimizing health practitioner involvement. The controller based apparatus provides a treatment that stimulates the nervous system through a combination of noninvasive therapies that stimulate brain cells to increase their efficiency—this promotes the formation of pathways that help transfer information throughout the brain in such a way that in the end, the affected area of the brain and overall brain function are improved without medication or surgery.
Display device and display method that determines intention or status of a user
The present invention provides a display apparatus and a display method for realizing control for display operations by a user precisely reflecting the user's status, i.e., the user's intentions, visual state and physical conditions. Worn as an eyeglass-like or head-mount wearable unit for example, the display apparatus of the present invention enables the user to recognize visibly various images on the display unit positioned in front of the user's eyes thereby providing the picked up images, reproduced images, and received images. As control for various display operations such as switching between the display state and the see-through state, display operation mode and selecting sources, the display apparatus of the present invention acquires information about either behavior or physical status of the user, and determines either intention or status of the user in accordance with the acquired information, thereby controlling the display operation appropriately on the basis of the determination result.

Provided are methods that include presenting to a subject an embodied cognitive task that includes a cognitive component and a physical component. The methods further include assessing the subject's performance on each of the cognitive component and the physical component, and adapting the difficulty level of the embodied cognitive task based on the subject's performance on each of the cognitive component and the physical component. In certain aspects, the methods find use in enhancing cognition, physical fitness, or both, in a subject. Also provided are methods of treating and diagnosing cognitive disorders. Systems and computer readable media for practicing the methods of the present disclosure are also provided.

In an aspect of the invention, a method of identifying sensory inputs affecting working memory load of an individual is provided. The method comprises monitoring (S101) working memory load of the individual using a sensor device, detecting (S102) an increase in the working memory load of the individual, and identifying (S103), in response to the detected increase, at least one sensory input affecting the working memory load of the individual.

A system having a scope with a longitudinal length extending between a proximal end and a distal end includes a plurality of markers spaced along the longitudinal length. The system also includes a disassociation and positioning device that is configured to enhance unsedated transnasal endoscopic procedures by at least partially occluding the vision of a patient while enabling body cavity access, and optionally record and sense body functions such as temperature, heart rate and oxygenation of the blood stream. The system further includes a sensor integrated into the distraction device, wherein the sensor is configured to detect the markers on the longitudinal length of the scope.
