An operating method of an electronic device including at least one antenna according to various embodiments of the disclosure may include: detecting that a state of a structure is changed from an open state to a close state, counting a sequence number from a first timing at which the state of the structure is changed to the close state to a second timing after a designated time based on information received from an external device via the at least one antenna using a designated communication scheme, determining location information of the external device based on the sequence number, and performing a designated function, based at least in part on the determined location information.

A device and a backend server are described. The device can determine whether it has entered an indoor location, and once in the indoor location, the device can communicate with the server the name of the location. The device can determine the current location of the user in the indoor location, and based on the floorplan and the indoor location of an item, the device can direct the user to the item. In response to determining that the particular access point is stationary, the processor(s) may determine (i) a distance between the mobile device and the particular access point, and/or (ii) a connection duration representing a length of time that the mobile device has been connected to the particular access point. Based at least on the determined distance and/or on the determined connection duration, the processor(s) may then make the determination of whether the mobile device is positioned indoors or outdoors.

Example implementations may relate to making a determination of whether a mobile device is positioned indoors or outdoors.
