GEOLOCATIONING SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR USE OF SAME
A geolocationing system and method for providing awareness in a multi-space environment, such as a hospitality environment or educational environment, are presented. In one embodiment of the geolocationing system, a vertical and horizontal array of gateway devices is provided. Each gateway device includes a gateway device identification providing an accurately-known fixed location within the multi-space environment. Each gateway device includes a wireless transceiver that receives a beacon signal from a proximate wireless-enabled personal locator device. The gateway devices, in turn, send gateway signals to a server, which determines estimated location of the wireless-enabled personal location device with angle of arrival modeling.

The method includes: determining a networking mode of the positioning network according to an application scene, wherein the networking mode includes independent networking of the positioning network and joint networking of the positioning network and a communication network; and configuring a positioning base station of the positioning network, or the positioning base station and a communication base station according to the networking mode, wherein the positioning base station is used for sending a positioning signal or the positioning signal and a synchronization signal, and the communication base station is used for sending the synchronization signal.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING OBJECT POSITION RELATIVE TO ANTENNA ARRAYS OF AN ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICE
An electronic communication device performs a method to detect proximity of an object to the device. The method includes determining a set of mutual coupling values for at least one pair of a plurality of antennas arrays of the electronic communication device. Each mutual coupling value indicates an efficiency of a mutual coupling transmission between an antenna element of a first antenna array of a pair of antenna arrays and an antenna element of a second antenna array of the pair of antenna arrays. The method further includes determining object position relative to the plurality of antenna arrays based on the set of mutual coupling values.
System and method for generating positioning reference signals
A position reference signal (PRS) to support observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) position determination in an electronic device is generated and transmitted by a network node that has a unique identifier. Generating the PRS includes generating a first PRS sequence and generating a second PRS sequence by modifying the first PRS sequence with a modification function to generate the second PRS sequence. A sum of the first PRS sequence and the second PRS sequence is zero.
System and method for detecting movement of a mobile asset and controlling operations of the asset based on its movement
A system and method are provided for detecting direction of movement. The system includes at least two radio frequency identification (RFID) readers arranged in different locations. The RFID readers transmit respective location signals from their locations and receive corresponding response signals from a portable electronic device (PED) when the PED is within range to receive the corresponding location signals, respectively. The system includes a controller configured to determine whether the individual response signals received by the RFID readers respectively satisfy a predetermined condition at a first time and a second time subsequent to the first time. The controller is also configured to determine a direction of movement of the portable electronic device relative to the locations of the RFID readers during the first and second times based on whether the response signals respectively satisfy the predetermined condition at the first and second times.
PERSONNEL LOCATION AND MONITORING SYSTEM
A personnel location and monitoring system enables on-scene commanders in austere environments to identify, location and manage personnel. The present invention establishes a localized network of geolocation-capable transceivers which can thereafter provide communication capabilities with specially-equipped users as they ingress and egress an austere environment. Each user is equipped with an Individual Geospatial Locational Unit which provides data via a datalink with one or more of the anchors, and ultimately with a base station. From such data and the datalink itself the location of the user as well as the user's biomedical condition can be ascertained. As confidence of the location of the user drops below a predetermined threshold and/or the biomedical condition of the user raises concern with respect to the user's well-being, the present invention modifies the communication and geolocation protocols to prioritize communication and data transfer with such a user.
Method and device for reducing multipath channel effects on phase measurements in navigation radio systems
Method of reducing multipath effects on phase measurements, including receiving radio signals with different pseudo-random codes transmitted by at least four base stations, each at particular frequency received by one channel; measuring delay difference and phase difference from different pairs of base stations; calculating a current position of the receiver based on the measured phase differences and delay differences, wherein the base stations differ in pseudo-random codes at same frequencies or differ in carrier frequency or polarization type if using the same pseudo-random codes, and wherein a number of channels in the receiver exceeds a number of channels needed for the calculating of the current position; detecting anomalous jumps in phase of one or more channels, based on first or second derivative of the phase, as being indicative of multipath signal reception; removing those channels from calculation of current position; and calculating current position based on remaining channels.
POWER RAMPING OF BEACON SIGNALS TO ENHANCE LOCATION ACCURACY
The technology enables locating asset tracking tags based on a ramped sequence of signals from one or more beacon tracking tags. The sequence includes at least one minimum power signal and at least one maximum power signal. Each signal in the sequence has a tag identifier and an initial signal strength value. Each beacon signal in the ramped sequence is associated with the time at which that beacon signal was received by a reader. Each beacon signal is also associated with a received signal strength at reception. A location of the beacon tracking tag is estimated according to the signals in the sequence based on the difference between the initial and received signal strengths. A position of the reader device is identified based on the beacon tag's location. An asset tracking tag location is identified based on the reader's location and packets received by the reader from the asset tag.
Method and Device for Positioning Using Electromagnetic Interference that is Jamming Navigation Signals
A method and device determines an evolving position of a device using electromagnetic interference, which is jamming electromagnetic navigation signals. An antenna arrangement receives both the electromagnetic navigation signals and the electromagnetic interference. A discerned position is determined for each of one or more jamming antennas emitting the electromagnetic interference. A detection circuit determines each discerned position from the electromagnetic interference received at the device and at least one measurement of the evolving position using the electromagnetic navigation signals. The evolving position of the device is determined while the electromagnetic interference prevents subsequently measuring the evolving position using the electromagnetic navigation signals. An evaluation circuit determines the evolving position from the electromagnetic interference received at the device and from each discerned position of the one or more jamming antennas.

Processing unit receives operation mode selection. When first operation mode is selected, processing unit receives first input signal from antenna via RF module (the first input signal including ILS signal and/or VOR signal) and outputs first output signal based on first input signal to external device. When second operational mode is selected, processing unit receives second input signal from antenna via radio frequency unit (second input signal including AIS signal including data regarding a current location of remotely located transmitting device) and outputs second output signal based on second input signal to external device.
