A method for calibrating a radar system includes generating an RF oscillator signal and distributing the RF oscillator signal to a plurality of phase shifters each providing a respective phase-shifted RF oscillator signal; receiving the phase-shifted RF oscillator signals by corresponding radar chips and radiating the phase-shifted RF oscillator signal via a first RF output channel of a first one of the radar chips; receiving a back-scattered signal by at least one RF input channel of each radar chip and generating a plurality of base-band signals by down-converting the received signals into a base band using the phase-shifted RF oscillator signals received by the corresponding radar chips; determining a phase for each base-band signal; and adjusting the phase shifts caused by the phase shifters such that the phases of the base-band signals match a predefined phase-over-antenna-position characteristic.

Frequency division multiple access in vehicle radar system

A method of implementing frequency division multiple access (FDMA) in a radar system of a vehicle includes transmitting a chirp signal from each of a plurality of transmit elements of the radar system simultaneously. The chirp signal transmitted by each of the plurality of transmit elements increases or decreases linearly in frequency over a frequency range over a duration of time and the frequency range of the chirp signal transmitted by adjacent ones of the plurality of transmit elements partially overlapping. The method also includes processing a reflection received based on reflection of the chirp signal transmitted by the plurality of transmit elements by one or more objects and controlling an operation of the vehicle based on locating the one or more objects.

TRANSPOSED DELAY LINE OSCILLATOR AND METHOD

A transposed delay line oscillator including a mode selection filter and a transposed delay line is provided. An output of the transposed delay line is coupled to an input of the mode selection filter to establish an oscillator loop. Based on the transposed delay line output, the mode selection filter generates a mode selection signal including an isolated oscillatory mode, in a Radio Frequency (RF) band. The transposed delay line receives the mode selection signal for transposition to an intermediate frequency of an intermediate frequency (IF) delay line. The IF delay line includes a delay filter and a phase noise suppression loop configured to suppress de-correlated transposition phase noise resulting from a delay of the delay filter. Suppression of phase noise in the IF delay line enables cancellation of transposition phase noise when transposing the IF delay line output to the RF band.

REAL-TIME THZ SENSING USING TRUE TIME DELAY

A method for real-time THz sensing using true time delay (TTD) is implemented by a base station and includes transmitting, by a transceiver that includes TDD elements and phase shifters configured in the transceiver, simultaneous frequency dependent (SFD) beams to scan an environment at a first granularity to detect a spatial cluster target. Each of the SFD beams corresponds to a different phase angle and different frequency. The method includes determining, among the SFD beams, a subset of beams that detected the spatial cluster target. The method includes beam switching, by the transceiver, using time division multiplexing (TDM) and a TDM bandwidth to scan a portion of the environment at phase angles corresponding to the subset of beams and at a second granularity finer than the first granularity. The method includes combining data received from the SFD beams, by multiple threads that concurrently process data received from the SFD beams.
