A computer-implemented method for radar target detection and radar systems includes executing via one or more processors: transmitting a signal from transmit antennas to receive antennas, each transmit antenna configured to alternately transmit at first and second pulse repetition frequencies, each frame of the signal including sub-frames, each sub-frame including pulses from the transmit antennas in a staggered arrangement; performing range compression on the pulses in each frame to generate range cells; performing Doppler processing on each range cell to generate range-Doppler (RD) maps for the transmit antennas; integrating the RD maps to generate an integrated RD map; detecting presence of a target from the integrated RD map; estimating range and velocity of the detected target; estimating direction-of-arrival (DOA) of the detected target; and generating a point cloud of the detected target by computing Cartesian coordinates of the detected target from the range and the DOA of the detected target.

One or more transforms may be performed to generate an array of spectrum values for a first domain spanning at least one of a range axis, a direction of arrival (DoA) axis, or a velocity axis. One or more spectrum values may be obtained from the array of spectrum values, wherein for each of the one or more spectrum values, (1) the spectrum value is associated with a range estimate, and (2) the spectrum value exceeds a range-dependent maximum threshold established based on a quartic function of the range estimate. The one or more spectrum values identified as exceeding the range-dependent maximum threshold may be excluded, or one or more reduced-magnitude values obtained, to generate an array of modified spectrum values for the first domain, used to generate a range estimate, a DoA estimate, or a velocity estimate, or any combination thereof.

According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the distance resolution of the radar can be optimized by dynamically varying the frequency bandwidth linked with the maximum detection distance according to a target distance under specific driving conditions.

The wireless communication device may further transmit the one or more pulses in a plurality of directions. The wireless communication device may receive feedback from at least one of the one or more receiving devices and determine ranging information about an object based on the feedback and the distance or direction of at least one receiving device.
