Risk behavior detection methods based on tracking handset movement within a moving vehicle
At least a method for determining risk behavior of a driver is described. While a vehicle is being driven, data is obtained related to the position and movement of a wireless communications device. The data may indicate the type of behavior exhibited by the driver while the vehicle is being driven.
Estimating vehicle speed through an advecting medium
A method including operating a vehicle in a medium. The vehicle is subject to advection due to movement of the medium. The method also includes measuring, using a navigation system, positions of a vehicle over time. The method also includes measuring, using a directional sensor, a course-through-medium over the time. The method also includes calculating, using the positions and the course-through-medium, a variation of a speed-over-ground of the vehicle over the time as a function of the course-through-medium over the time. The method also includes concurrently estimating, using the variation, 1) an average speed-through-medium for the vehicle over the time, and 2) an advection rate of the medium, and 3) an advection direction of the medium.

MONITORING A SPEED DETERMINATION SYSTEM
A monitoring system for a speed determination system in an aircraft is disclosed. A method, which may be implemented by a computer program, of monitoring a speed determination system for an aircraft is also disclosed. The speed determination system includes a first speed measurement system and a second speed measurement system and the second speed measurement system is associated with a predetermined behaviour characteristic. The monitoring system includes a processor arranged to receive speed data provided by the speed determination system and to perform a correspondence determination process comprising processing the received speed data to determine whether a correspondence condition is satisfied, the correspondence condition having a correspondence between the received speed data and the predetermined behaviour characteristic of the second speed measurement system. In response to determining that the correspondence condition is satisfied, determine that the first speed measurement system is in an error condition.
Method and system for controlling the speed of a vehicle
A system for regulating the speed of a vehicle includes defining a first border for a first geographic region. The border has a first speed within the border and a second speed outside of the border. The system includes determining a first velocity of the vehicle including a vehicle speed and direction of the vehicle approaching the border. The difference between the vehicle speed and the second speed is the calculated, as is a distance between the vehicle and the border. If the difference between the vehicle speed and the second speed divided by the distance is greater than a predetermined value, the vehicle is decelerated at a rate so that the vehicle will have a second speed when the vehicle reaches the border.

Traffic radar system with patrol vehicle speed detection
A traffic radar system comprises a first radar transceiver, a second radar transceiver, a speed determining element, and a processing element. The first radar transceiver transmits and receives radar beams and generates a first electronic signal corresponding to the received radar beam. The second radar transceiver transmits and receives radar beams and generates a second electronic signal corresponding to the received radar beam. The speed determining element determines and outputs a speed of the patrol vehicle. The processing element is configured to receive a plurality of digital data samples derived from the first or second electronic signals, receive the speed of the patrol vehicle, process the digital data samples to determine a relative speed of at least one target vehicle in the front zone or the rear zone, and convert the relative speed of the target vehicle to an absolute speed using the speed of the patrol vehicle.
