The present invention is a device for sterilizing microorganisms on a liquid or solid substrate. The device includes a light source for producing a continuous light and an optical device positioned proximate the light source. The optical device is configured to focus the light generated by the light source to provide a continuous high intensity light output. The optical device also includes a dichroic reflector. The dichroic reflector is configured to pass thermal energy generated by the light source and reflect the light produced by the light source. The device also includes a power supply, where the power supply is coupled to the light source and the optical device. The device thereby killing microbial organisms presented within the range of the continuous high intensity light output.

Fluid-based light guiding structure and fabrication thereof

A solution for fabricating a structure including a light guiding structure is provided. The light guiding structure can be formed of a fluoropolymer-based material and include one or more regions, each of which is filled with a fluid transparent to radiation having a target wavelength, such as ultraviolet radiation. The region(s) can be created using a filler material, which is at least substantially enclosed by the fluoropolymer-based material and subsequently removed from each region. The structure can further include at least one optical element integrated into the light guiding structure.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and techniques for optical detection of analytes (e.g., biomarkers or other objects) using a liquid-core waveguide in which the analytes are suspended in a high-index liquid inside a liquid channel of the waveguide. The term high-index may indicate a refractive core index of the carrier liquid that is higher than or equal to that of one or more surrounding cladding layer(s) (e.g., ethylene glycol liquid inside a glass channel). In some embodiments, a method includes illuminating, by a light-source, one or more particles in a liquid-core waveguide, wherein the liquid-core waveguide comprises a first cladding layer having a first index of a refraction, and a hollow core comprising a liquid inside the hollow core, wherein the liquid has a second index of refraction higher than the first index of refraction; and detecting, by a detector, light emitted from the one or more particles.

Provided is a tilt angle sensor. The tile angle sensor includes a first directional coupler, a second directional coupler, a reference single mode optical fiber, and a sensing single mode optical fiber. An output end of the first directional coupler is connected to a first end of the reference single mode optical fiber and a first end of the sensing single mode optical fiber. A second end of the reference single mode optical fiber and a second end of the sensing single mode optical fiber are connected to an input end of the second directional coupler. A groove having a depth less than or equal to a thickness of a wall of a cladding of the sensing single mode optical fiber is formed on the cladding. The groove is filled and sealed with two liquids of different densities and un-dissolvable with each other, and the two liquids form layers.

GAS SENSOR INCLUDING OPTIC FIBER CONNECTOR

A gas detector sensor node includes a first sensor conductor having a terminal end, a second sensor conductor including an end section, and a coupler joining the terminal end of the first sensor conductor with the end section of the second sensor conductor. The coupler is permeable to gas.
