SUBMARINE DEVICE, METHOD OF CONFIGURING SUBMARINE DEVICE, AND SUBMARINE CABLE SYSTEM
A submarine device includes a main tail cable connected to a submarine cable, a first branch tail cable including a first group of optical fibers among a plurality of optical fibers included in the main tail cable, a second branch tail cable including a second group of optical fibers among the plurality of optical fibers, a branch member that couples the main tail cable to the first and second branch tail cables and including therein a through hole for branching the plurality of optical fibers included in the main tail cable into the first group and the second group, and a device main body including a first introduction part for introducing the first branch tail cable into the device main body and a second introduction part for introducing the second branch tail cable into the device main body. The branch member is fixed to the device main body.
Location and monitoring of undersea cables
The present application described methods an apparatus for locating and/or monitoring subsea cables (101) having an optical fibre (105) deployed along its length. The optical fibre (105) is connected to a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) interrogator unit to interrogate the optical fibre to provide a fibre optic DAS sensor. To locate the cable an acoustic stimulus is transmitted into the water from one or more known locations. The time of arrival of an acoustic signal matching the stimulus at the sensing portions of the DAS fibre can be detected and used to determine information about the location of those sensing portions to the known location. The DAS signals returns can also be monitored under ambient conditions to detect any signals indicative of likely damage to the cable.
SMART SUBSEA PIPELINE WITH CONDUITS
Pipeline segments can contain cables, such as communication cables (e.g., fiber optic cables) within insulation material surrounding the pipeline segments. Cables can be embedded within the insulation material, run through conduits embedded within the insulation material, placed in channels formed in the insulation material, or otherwise. Channels containing one or more cables can be filled with supplemental insulation material, thus securing the cables within the channels. Pipelines created as disclosed herein can enable data transfer between distant points without the need to lay fiber optic cable in addition to the pipeline. Further, fiber optic cable embedded thusly can be used to sense conditions in the pipeline, such as leaks, seismic activity, strain, and temperature information.
Power cable filler device and power cable comprising the same
A power cable and filler device adapted to bear against a first and second power cores in a power cable, including a first arced wall which defines a portion of a first circle having a first diameter, a second and third arced wall, each defining a portion of a second circle having a second diameter which is smaller than the first diameter. A chamber is formed between the first, second and third arced walls.
ABRASION PROTECTED DEEPWATER CABLE
An improved deepwater optical fiber cable with abrasion protection and techniques for manufacturing the same are provided. For example, the abrasion protected deepwater cable may be a modification or enhancement of an existing special application (SPA) optical fiber cable. One or more additional layers of metallic tape and jackets may be added to the outermost layer of the SPA cable. The tape and jacket layers may have different thicknesses and may be made from different materials to optimize protection against man-made objects or otherwise naturally occurring materials in deep water environments, such as fish aggregation devices (FADs).
INTEGRATED 3-WAY BRANCHING UNIT SWITCH MODULE HAVING SMALL FOOTPRINT
Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems, methods. and structures directed to an integrated 3-way branching unit switch module suitable for undersea application.
Submarine optical system with free space optical add/drop multiplexer
A common component assembly is provided for a cable joint for joining a first submarine optical cable and a second submarine optical cable. The assembly includes a first end face including a first opening and a first flange for connection to a first cable termination unit of an undersea optical cable joint. The assembly also includes a second end face including a second opening and a second flange for connection to a second cable termination unit of an undersea optical cable joint. The assembly further includes a fiber tray connecting the first end face to the second end face. In addition, the assembly includes an optical assembly connected to a first side of the fiber tray. The optical assembly includes a free space optical add/drop multiplexer.

Coupling Polymeric Components to One Another Utilizing Electromagnetic Energy
A method of coupling polymeric components utilizing electromagnetic energy is disclosed. The method can include obtaining a first component having a first coupling portion, a second component having a second coupling portion, and a susceptor. The method can also include mating the first and second components such that the susceptor is proximate the first and second coupling portions. In addition, the method can include applying electromagnetic energy to the susceptor. The susceptor can convert the electromagnetic energy to heat, which can melt portions of the first and second coupling portions about the susceptor to couple the first and second components to one another upon solidification.
