Locating connectors and methods for mounting solar hardware
A solar concentrator assembly can include mirror assemblies that are connected to pivotable frames with locating connections. The locating connections can be in the form of cam devices or tool-less connections formed by snap fitting devices as well as tool-less cam devices.
Sunlight redirector with fixed mirror segments
A sunlight redirector has a first mirror array formed of a first plurality of substantially parallel, uniformly spaced, longitudinal outward mirror segments; and a second mirror array formed of a second plurality of substantially parallel, uniformly spaced, longitudinal inward mirror segments. Each mirror segment has a normal vector. The outward mirror segments are adjustably positionable, such that their normal vectors remain parallel. The first mirror array is rotatable about a normal vector of the sunlight redirector. The inward mirror segments may remain fixed in position at all times; or they may be moved, twice per day, between first and second fixed positions.
POLARISING PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE BUILT INTO THE SCREEN OF AN ELECTRONIC DISPLAY DEVICE
A display device provided with a polarising photovoltaic module includes (a) a plurality of polarisers; (b) a plurality of pixels which emit or transmit light referred to as image light; (c) a plurality of photovoltaic active zones and a plurality of openings, two adjacent photovoltaic active zones forming an opening and said photovoltaic active zones being arranged between the pixels and the polarisers; wherein said polarisers are semi-reflective and are made up of one or more surfaces selected among planar surfaces, which are concave or convex, and have parabolic, conical, pyramidal, tetrahedral, semi-cylindrical or cylindrical-parabolic shapes, said polarisers being arranged so as to concentrate, by reflection, a first linear polarised component of the ambient light onto said photovoltaic active zones, as well as to transmit, through the polarising photovoltaic module, a second linear polarised component of the ambient light or of the image light.
Device for positioning a member for transmitting solar energy relative to an optical concentrator
A device for positioning the intake of a member, for transmitting solar energy relative to a convergent optical concentrator, including a mounting provided with at least one reserve suitable for receiving and supporting the optical concentrator in a predetermined direction and allowing light to pass through said mounting, a receiver suitable for receiving and supporting the intake of the transmitting member, and at least one spacer element in order to keep said receiver spaced apart from the mounting in a stationary position relative to said reserve, said stationary position being defined in accordance with the features of the transmitting member and optical concentrator.
Light-concentrating lens assembly for a solar energy recovery system
A light-concentrating lens assembly for a solar energy system, the assembly comprising a plurality of concentrically arranged paraboloid mirror reflectors, a conical light guide extending below the plurality of paraboloid mirror reflectors, an inner central cone disposed along a central axis of the concentrically arranged paraboloid mirror reflectors, and a compound paraboloid concentrator disposed beneath the inner central cone.
Multilayer polymeric reflector
A multilayer polymeric reflector is provided which comprises: a) a plurality of first optical layers, each first optical layer comprising a polyester having terephthalate comonomer units and ethylene glycol comonomer units, the polyester having a glass transition temperature, where each first optical layer is oriented, and b) a plurality of second optical layers disposed in a repeating sequence with the plurality of first optical layers, each second optical layer comprising a blend of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), where the blend has a glass transition temperature less than the glass transition temperature of the polyester comprising the first optical layers, and where the amount of PVDF in the PMMA/PVDF blend is greater than and not equal to about 40% and not more than about 65%. Articles comprising the multilayer polymeric reflector are also provided.
Solar tracking and solar energy collection apparatus and method of using
The invention is directed to a solar tracking apparatus that with permanent adjustment for latitude and pre-operation seasonal adjustment, when aimed at the Sun, will with rotation alone, track the Sun. The apparatus defines a permanently polar axis aligned shaft which rotates by the force of a weighted hydraulic timed drive continuously or intermittently at a rate simulating the apparent approximate fifteen degree per hour movement of the Sun across the sky. A two-ended carriage is fitted with a Fresnel lens or other solar concentrating or collecting element on one end and a targeted receiver is fitted to the other end. The carriage is adjustably mounted to about twenty three degrees either side of perpendicular to the polar aligned shaft thus focusing and concentrating the solar radiation on a receiving device, which stores the solar energy in the form of heat.
Glazing unit, method for the production thereof and use thereof
A glazing unit is provided for producing an aesthetically pleasing effect, comprising or consisting of at least one pane, said pane having a first structured surface to which a three-dimensional photonic structure is applied and the average refractive index of the photonic structure being higher than approximately 1.6 or higher than approximately 1.8 or higher than approximately 1.95. A method of producing such a glazing unit and the use thereof is also provided.
WIDE ANGLE, BROAD-BAND, POLARIZATION INDEPENDENT BEAM STEERING AND CONCENTRATION OF WAVE ENERGY UTILIZING ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED SOFT MATTER
A general method is provided for electronically reconfiguring the internal structure of a solid to allow precision control of the propagation of wave energy. The method allows digital or analog control of wave energy, such as but not limited to visible light, while maintaining low losses, a multi-octave bandwidth, polarization independence, large area and a large dynamic range in power handling. Embodiments of the technique are provided for large-angle beam steering, lenses and other devices to control wave energy.
Tracking device
The invention relates to a passive tracking device for tracking the position of the sun, which comprises a hollow parallelepiped casing through which the solar radiation entering through a first lens located at the upper end of the parallelepiped casing passes towards a discriminating reflector arranged at the lower end of the same casing; the tracking device redirects as much incoming radiation as possible towards side chambers for absorbing radiation, heating a working fluid contained in the side chamber; producing a volumetric expansion in the working fluid that, communicating with shafts for the rotation of the tracking device, allows the orientation with the normal/perpendicular position with respect to the position of the sun, and to guide the alignment direction of other tracking devices for collecting energy in devices for collecting photovoltaic and/or thermal energy that are mechanically connected to the tracking device.
