Short distance illumination of a spatial light modulator using a single reflector
A display device includes a light source, a spatial light modulator, and an optical element. The optical element includes a reflective surface. The optical assembly is positioned relative to the light source so that at least a portion of the illumination light received by the optical element is reflected at the reflective surface back toward the light source. The spatial light modulator is positioned to receive at least a portion of the illumination light reflected by the reflective surface. A method performed by the display device is also disclosed.
CONVERTIBLE WAVEGUIDE OPTICAL ENGINE ASSEMBLY FOR HEAD-MOUNTED DEVICE
A head-mounted computing device having a convertible waveguide optical engine assembly is disclosed. The waveguide in accordance with aspects herein can be utilized in its transparent configuration, or may be provided with means for blocking light from passing through it either by using mechanical means, or by using different types of treatments that can switch the waveguide between opaque an transparent states based on an external stimulus, such as, for example, electricity, temperature, light, and the like. Further, the waveguide optical engine assembly comprises a compact footprint, which is advantageous for head-mounted computing devices. In addition to the compact footprint of the waveguide optical assembly, the configuration of the waveguide optical assembly, as disclosed, allows for maximization of advantages provided by the waveguide as related to eye box and eye relief.
IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE, IMAGE DISPLAY METHOD, AND RECORDING MEDIUM

HAPTIC SYSTEMS FOR HEAD-WORN COMPUTERS
Aspects of the present disclosure relate to haptic feedback systems and methods for use in head-worn computing systems. A head worn computer includes a frame adapted to hold a computer display in front of a user's eye, a processor adapted to present digital content in the computer display and to produce a haptic signal in coordination with the digital content display, and a haptic system including a plurality of haptic segments, wherein each of the haptic segments is individually controlled in coordination with the haptic signal.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR AUGMENTING SIGHT
A method of augmenting sight in an individual. The method comprises obtaining an image of a scene using a camera carried by the individual; transmitting the obtained image to a processor carried by the individual; selecting an image modification to be applied to the image by the processor; operating upon the image to create a modified image using either analog or digital imaging techniques, and displaying the modified image on a display device worn by the individual. The invention also relates to an apparatus augmenting sight in an individual. The apparatus comprises a camera, carried by the individual, for obtaining an image of a scene viewed by the individual; a display carried by the individual; an image modification input device carried by the individual; and a processor, carried by the individual. The processor modifies the image and displays the modified image on the display carried by the individual.
OPTICAL DEVICE AND VIRTUAL IMAGE DISPLAY
An optical device includes: a light guide plate receiving, for each of N types of wavelength bands, a plurality of parallel light beams with different incident angles each corresponding to view angles, and guiding the received parallel light beams; a first and a second volume hologram gratings of reflection type having a diffraction configuration which includes N types of interference fringes each corresponding to the N types of wavelength bands, and diffracting/reflecting the parallel light beams. The optical device satisfies for each wavelength band, a relationship of ‘P>L’, where ‘L’ represents a central diffraction wavelength in the first and second volume hologram gratings, defined for a parallel light beam corresponding to a central view angle, and ‘P’ represents a peak wavelength of the parallel light beams.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING AN ACTIVE FILTERING DEVICE
Method of controlling an active filtering device comprising an active filter and a filter controller arranged to control the active filter, the method comprising: a wearer location providing step, during which a location of a wearer is provided, a luminous cartography providing step, during which a luminous cartography relating to the light sources in the environment of the wearer is provided, the luminous cartography depending at least on the location of the wearer, a light exposure profile determining step, during which at least one part of the light exposure profile of the wearer is determined based at least on the luminous cartography and on the wearer location, and an active filter controlling step, during which the active filter is controlled by the filter controller according to the determined light exposure profile of the wearer.
