According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor, a charging member, an application unit, and a control unit. An image is formed on the photoreceptor. The charging member is in contact with or close to a surface of the photoreceptor. The application unit applies a voltage to the charging member. The control unit performs control so that a current flowing through the charging member and the photoreceptor becomes a constant current when the photoreceptor is in an unused state, measures a voltage when the constant current flows and stores the measured voltage as a reference voltage, and controls the application unit to apply a voltage obtained by adding correction according to a value indicating a usage amount of the photoreceptor to the reference voltage.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a fixing device, a high voltage power supply board, a main body housing and a door. The door is provided in the main body housing so as to face the fixing device. The fixing device includes a fixing member, a pressure roller, a charge applying device, a fixing housing and a contact member. The fixing member is rotatable. The charge applying device is applied with a voltage from the high voltage power supply board and applies a charge to the fixing member. The fixing housing stores the fixing member, the pressure roller and the charge applying device. The contact member is provided in the fixing housing at a position accessible by opening the door and to which a feed line on the high voltage power supply board side and a feed line on the charge applying device side are connected.

Image forming apparatus having moving mechanisms to move developing rollers to be in contact with and separated from photosensitive drums

In an image forming apparatus, a first photosensitive drum is disposed upstream of a second photosensitive drum in a conveyance direction. Each of first and second developing rollers is movable between a contact position contacting a corresponding photosensitive drum and a separated position separated from the corresponding photosensitive drum. In a first case where a color print process is executed, a first moving mechanism starts moving the first developing roller toward the contact position, a manual feed roller starts picking up the sheet on a manual feed tray, and a second moving mechanism starts moving the second developing roller toward the contact position. In a second case where the monochrome print process is executed, the manual feed roller starts picking up the sheet on the manual feed tray, and the second moving mechanism starts moving the second developing roller toward the contact position.

The support includes an operation portion that switches between a remote position and a contact position while the charge roller unit is stored in the storage recess. In the remote position, the charge roller is separated from the photosensitive drum. In the contact position, the charge roller is in contact with the photosensitive drum.

A processing device includes: a frame that supports a photosensitive drum; a bearing member that biases a charge roller in the direction to be in contact with the photosensitive drum; and a holder that is switchable between a holding state where the charge roller is separated from the photosensitive drum and a canceled state where the holding state is canceled so that the roller is brought into contact with the photosensitive drum; wherein a canceling member is provided in at least one of inside the processing-device attachment and an attachment body attached to an image forming apparatus main body at a front side to cause the holder to shift from the holding state to the canceled state. The canceling member causes the holder to shift from the holding state to the canceled state when the attachment body is attached to the image forming apparatus main body at the front side.

CHARGING ROLL OR DEVELOPING ROLL FOR ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC DEVICE

An elastic body layer is composed of a conductive rubber composition containing an isoprene rubber, a rubber other than the isoprene rubber, and carbon black. The elastic body layer is phase-separated into a first rubber phase containing the isoprene rubber and a second rubber phase containing the rubber other than the isoprene rubber; in the range of a 5 μm×5 μm square of an arbitrary cross section of the elastic body layer, the area ratio of the first rubber phase is within a range of 10 to 90%. The resistance value of the elastic body layer is within a range of 1.0×10.sup.3 to 1.0×10.sup.6Ω. A surface layer contains an electronic conductive agent and a crosslinked body of at least one polyurethane resin of an ether polyurethane resin and a carbonate polyurethane resin, and the glass transition point of the surface layer is within a range of −10 to −70° C.

Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes a first transport unit, a second transport unit, a cover, a flap, a drive unit for moving the flap, a first sensor for detecting opening and closing of the cover, a second sensor for detecting a position of a sheet, and a controller. The controller switches the drive unit to move the flap to the second position, upon determining it is necessary to move the flap to the second position, subsequent to determining that the cover is opened based on a detection result by the first sensor. The controller switches the drive unit to move the flap from the second position to the first position, upon determining, based on a detection result by the second sensor, that a leading edge of the sheet reaches a position downstream, in a sheet transport direction, of a swing end portion of the flap at the second position.
