A printing system including a jam detection section that detects occurrence of a jam as a state in which a sheet is jammed, a guide display section that displays a guide of a procedure for removing a sheet in response to occurrence of the detected jam, and a plurality of units associated with a plurality of types of functions, respectively. An operation log of firmware that controls one unit is automatically saved. A setting of whether or not to automatically save a log when a jam has occurred is displayed. When occurrence of a jam is detected in a case where the automatic log saving is set, a controller causes a process for automatically saving an operation log of firmware to be executed, and a screen to be displayed on a display section for prompting a user to wait until the automatic saving process is terminated.

An identification apparatus includes a guide member defining a guide path, a scanning portion that scans the sheet inserted in the guide path, a first detection portion disposed upstream of the scanning portion in an insertion direction of the sheet in the guide path that detects presence/absence of the sheet, and a second detection portion disposed downstream of the scanning portion in the insertion direction in the guide path and detects presence/absence of the sheet. The identification apparatus is configured to start measurement of a surface property of the sheet by the scanning portion in response to a change in a detection result of one of the first detection portion or the second detection portion, and complete the measurement in response to a change in a detection result whichever of the first detection portion or the second detection portion not used in determining the start of the measurement.

A method of controlling a printing system including a printing apparatus that prints an image on a sheet and a charge eliminating apparatus that performs a charge eliminating process on the sheet on which the image is printed includes measuring an amount of charge on the sheet that has undergone the charge eliminating process performed by the charge eliminating apparatus, and displaying a message prompting a user to change a setting for charge elimination to be performed by the charge eliminating apparatus in a case where the amount of charge on the sheet measured in the measuring does not fall within a predetermined range.

An image forming apparatus accepts input of selection of a predetermined printing mode for forming a toner image for adhering foil onto a sheet via the toner image and information related to a type of the sheet; forms the toner image on the sheet; and displays a warning on a display unit according to the information related to the type of the sheet in a case where the predetermined printing mode is selected through an input unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an operation unit configured to allow selection between a first mode for forming an image on a first recording material in which at least one side is closed and a second mode for forming an image on a second recording material without a closed side, and to allow input of information relating to a size of a recording material, an image former configured to form an image on the recording material, and a controller configured to set, in a case where the first mode is selected through the operation unit and a first size is input as information relating to a size of the first recording material, a length of the first recording material in a conveyance direction as a first length.

An image forming apparatus includes a selector configured to select a first mode for forming an image on a first recording material including a first side which is closed, a second side which is closed, a third side which is open, and a fourth side which is open, a placement portion on which the first recording material is to be placed, an image former configured to form an image on the first recording material conveyed from the placement portion, and a display, wherein the display is configured to display, in a case where the first mode is selected by the selector, a message prompting a user to place the first recording material on the placement portion so that a leading edge side of the first recording material in a conveyance direction becomes the first side.

An image forming apparatus includes a selector configured to select a first mode for forming an image on a first recording material including a first side which is closed, a second side which is closed, a third side which is open, and a fourth side which is open, a tray on which the first recording material is to be placed, an image former configured to form an image on the first recording material conveyed from the tray, a display, and a controller configured to control, in a case where the first mode is selected by the selector, an orientation of an image to be formed in accordance with an orientation in which the first recording material is placed on the tray.

An image forming apparatus that acquires agreement information managed by a server and receives provision of a service according to the agreement information includes at least one memory storing a program, and at least one processor that executes the stored program, which cause the at least one processor to update use state information of the image forming apparatus, extract partial information from the agreement information and the use state information, and perform display of the partial information on a function selection screen for selecting a function of the image forming apparatus.

In an image forming apparatus, a controller allows a display device to display operation buttons and executes either one of: a user-specific display mode in which, for each individual one of users, respective user-specific numbers of operations on the operation buttons made by the individual user are measured and, in use by the individual user, an order of display of the operation buttons on the display device for the individual user is set based on the respective user-specific numbers of operations on the operation buttons; and a cross-user display mode in which respective total numbers of operations on the operation buttons made by all the users are measured and, in use by any one of the users, an order of display of the operation buttons on the display device is set based on the respective total numbers of operations on the operation buttons.
