Further, when the length of the toner band to be formed in the non-printable area exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the toner refresh controller forms at least a part of the toner band to be formed in the non-printable area in parallel with a subsequent page image.

A processor generates an extraction image by extracting, from a test image, a target specific part that is a horizontal stripe extending in a horizontal direction or a noise point. The processor derives a vertical data sequence from a target area in the extraction image and converts the vertical data sequence to primary conversion data of a frequency domain. The processor converts, to secondary conversion data of a space domain, correction data that is obtained by removing, from the primary conversion data, data of frequency bands other than a particular frequency band corresponding to a target specific part that was determined as having periodicities. The processor classifies the target specific parts into periodic specific part and non-periodic specific part by comparing positions of the target specific parts with a peak position in a waveform represented by the secondary conversion data.

An image forming apparatus includes a print engine including a photosensitive drum forming an image on an image forming medium, a charging member charging the photosensitive drum, a power supply to provide a charging power supply having a reference charging voltage to the charging member, a sensor to detect an image density of an image formed on the image forming medium, and a processor to control the power supply to change a magnitude of voltage of the charging power supply within a predetermined voltage range at predetermined periods, and to identify an occurrence of a background with respect to the photosensitive drum based on an image density detected by the sensor while the charging power supply is changed.

The image forming apparatus has a sensor. In the image forming apparatus, second data for use in detecting a sign of abnormality is generated based on first data comprised of measured values obtained by the sensor. The second data is transmitted directly or indirectly to the management apparatus that detects the sign of abnormality. Wherein, the second data is data that indicates characteristics of the image forming apparatus and has a smaller data amount that that of the first data.

An image forming apparatus includes: a developing roller; a photosensitive drum; a first measurement device that measures a blank portion current in a first line on the photosensitive drum which extends in a scanning direction of the photosensitive drum and on which no toner patch is formed; a second measurement device that measures a measuring development current in a second line on the photosensitive drum which extends in the scanning direction of the photosensitive drum and on which a toner patch is formed; and a control device that functions as a patch setter and a first calculator. The patch setter sets a patch width of the toner patch in the scanning direction of the photosensitive drum. The first calculator calculates an actual development current based on a developable width of the photosensitive drum in the scanning direction, the patch width, the blank portion current, and the measuring development current.

An image forming apparatus includes a developing roller, a photoconductor drum, a density detector, a current detector, and a controller. The developing roller carries a toner. The photoconductor drum carries a toner patch. The density detector detects toner density of the toner patch. The current detector detects developing current flowing to the toner patch. The controller calculates an inclination of an approximate straight line approximating a relation between the toner density and the developing current. The developing roller develops three or more toner patches, different in toner density and different in developing current from one another, on the photoconductor drum. The controller calculates the inclination, using different mathematical expressions depending on whether three toner patches or four toner patches are provided.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device to form an image on a sheet, and an image reading device to read an image from the sheet. A processing unit causes the image forming device to perform a predetermined image formation to form a first image for position correction of an output image and a second image for tone correction.
