An image forming apparatus including: a movable intermediate transfer member onto which a toner image borne by an image bearing member is to be transferred; a detection unit configured to irradiate the toner image on the intermediate transfer member with light to detect reflected light; and a control unit configured to adjust a condition for forming the toner image based on a detection result of the detection unit, wherein a plurality of grooves extending along a movement direction of the intermediate transfer member are formed in a surface of the intermediate transfer member in a width direction intersecting the movement direction, and wherein grooves, formed within a range of the intermediate transfer member to which the light is irradiated by the detection unit, among the plurality of grooves are formed so that intervals each between adjacent grooves with respect to the width direction are regularly changed within a predetermined range.

Provided is an image forming apparatus having a simple configuration capable of measuring a toner current included in a developing current and accurately calculating a toner charge amount based on the measurement result. A developing device has a developer carrier that carries a two-component developer including a magnetic carrier and toner. A developing voltage power supply applies a developing voltage obtained by superimposing an AC voltage on a DC voltage on the developer carrier. A control unit estimates a toner charge amount based on a toner current calculated by subtracting a carrier current from a developing current detected by a current detecting unit when a reference image is formed during non-image formation, and a toner developing amount calculated from the density of a reference image detected by a density detecting device.

An image forming apparatus, configured to operate in first and second modes of which color gamut is different from each other, includes an exposure unit configured to expose a photosensitive drum; a developing roller configured to form a toner image; a detection unit configured to detect density of the toner image transferred to an intermediate transfer member; and a controller configured to adjust the density based on a value of input image data. A dithering process for the controller's controlling of the exposure unit is different depending on whether the operation is in the first mode or the second mode, and in at least a part of the input image data, the density of the toner image formed by the dithering process in the first mode is higher than the density of the toner image formed by the dithering process in the second mode.
Calibration chart based image forming apparatus
An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes an image former to change a transfer condition while printing a calibration chart in which patches of different colors are repeatedly arranged in a sub-scanning direction, a scanner to scan the printed calibration chart, and a processor to determine an image defect under each transfer condition using the scanned calibration chart, and to set a transfer condition of the image former based on the determined image defect.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a toner cartridge used in an image forming apparatus including a processor which forms a toner pattern image on a photoconductive member, transfers the toner pattern image on a medium, and changes an image forming condition based on a detection result obtained by optically detecting the toner pattern image transferred onto the medium, the toner cartridge including: a toner accommodating container accommodating a toner, and a memory. The memory stores reference data which is determined according to toner characteristics in the toner accommodating container, and is used for applying a reference value for an optical detection result of a toner pattern formed by the toner on the medium.

The detector detects, at two positions in a second direction, the detection image formed on the print medium or the detection image formed on the second conveyor. The controller varies one or both of a conveying speed of the print medium to be conveyed by the first conveyor and a cutting speed of the print medium to be cut by the cutter, on the basis of a comparison of the detection image detected at the two positions.

A first provider for providing a printer, a second provider for providing a print medium, a client which performs printing on the print medium using the printer, and a management section for processing and storing information are coupled to each other via a network. The first provider provides the second provider with a provider printer and a profile preparation tool. The second provider executes a process of preparing a profile corresponding to a combination of the provider printer and the print medium using the same, and transmitting printing setup information including the profile to the management section with respect to one or more print media. The client receives the printing setup information corresponding to the combination of the client printer used in printing and the print medium used in printing from the management section, performs setup based on the printing setup information on software for controlling the client printer and performs printing.

An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image forming portions, an intermediate transfer belt, a plurality of primary transfer members, a belt cleaning device, a secondary transfer member, a voltage application device, an image density sensor, and a control section, and executes calibration based on a result of detection by the image density sensor. The control section is capable of executing a cleaning assist mode in which, at the time of executing the calibration, a part of patch images on the intermediate transfer belt is transferred to the secondary transfer member. In a case of forming a toner image on the intermediate transfer belt after one belt revolution, the control section executes the cleaning assist mode, and in a case of not forming the toner image after one belt revolution, the control section continuously applies a reverse transfer voltage to the secondary transfer member.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, an image transfer device for transferring a toner image from the image bearing member to a sheet, an application device for applying a transfer voltage to the image transfer device, and a controller for controlling an output mode operation for outputting a predetermined chart in which test halftone toner images transferred with different transfer voltages are formed to adjust the transfer voltage. When outputting a maximum size of the chart, the controller forms the test toner images in a region within 50 mm from an edge in a width direction perpendicular to a feeding direction of the sheet.
