A secondary transfer unit transfers the first and second toner images from the transfer belt to a sheet traveling in a sheet transport direction. A fixing unit fixes the first and second toner images to the sheet. A control unit controls the first toner image forming unit to form a first pattern, the second toner image forming unit to form a second pattern, and to leaving a margin on a upstream side of the sheet in the sheet transport direction that is greater than or equal to a circumferential distance of a fixing element in the fixing unit.

There is provided a printing apparatus. The printing apparatus includes: a memory storing a program; and at least one hardware processor configured to execute a process in the program. The process includes: performing pre-printing of overprinting which is an operation of performing pre-printing on a medium and then performing post-printing on the medium; and printing a chart asymmetric with respect to rotation toward a direction of the medium on the medium during test printing related to the pre-printing.

An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member, a rotatable transfer member, a first driving source to drive the image bearing member, a second driving source to drive the transfer member, and a control portion. Based on a toner amount per unit area of the toner image transferred to each of a plurality of first divided regions on a plane of a recording material in a feeding direction, the control portion controls a driving speed of the transfer member while each of the plurality of the first divided regions passes through a transfer portion. An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit configured to form an image on a sheet based on image forming condition, a reader configured to convey the sheet and read a test image on the sheet while the sheet is conveyed, and a controller configured to control the image forming unit to form the image and the test image on a same sheet, control the reader to read the test image on the same sheet, and generate the image forming condition for adjusting a density of an image to be formed by the image forming unit, based on a reading result of the test image by the reader.

The circuitry corrects an amount of deviation based on a pattern formed by the image forming device, changes a magnification of the pattern, and calculates the amount of deviation based on the magnification.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit to form an image on a sheet and a sensor with a light emitting part having a light emission intensity that changes according to an input voltage level and a light receiving part that outputs an output value that changes according to the amount of incident light. The sensor is configured to detect a toner density of the image formed by the image forming unit. A power supply unit is provided to supply power to the light emitting part and change the input voltage level of the power supplied to light emitting part in a predetermined sequence until an end condition is satisfied during an inspection operation. A controller is configured to make an abnormality determination based on a state of the sensor when the end condition is satisfied during the inspection operation.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit to form an image on a sheet and a sensor with a light emitting part having a light emission intensity that changes according to an input voltage level and a light receiving part that outputs an output value that changes according to the amount of incident light. The sensor is configured to detect a toner density of the image formed by the image forming unit. A power supply unit is provided to supply power to the light emitting part and change the input voltage level of the power supplied to light emitting part in a predetermined sequence until an end condition is satisfied during an inspection operation. A controller is configured to make an abnormality determination based on a state of the sensor when the end condition is satisfied during the inspection operation.

An image forming apparatus include an image forming device, an image bearer, a transferrer, a cleaner, and an adhesion amount detector. The image forming device forms, on the image bearer, a toner image to be transferred to a recording medium and a toner image pattern to be input to the cleaner without being transferred to the recording medium. The cleaner cleans the image bearer. The adhesion amount detector detects a toner adhesion amount of the toner image. The toner image pattern is a belt-shaped pattern elongated in an orthogonal direction orthogonal to a traveling direction of the image bearer and having a greater amount of toner input to a portion of the cleaner corresponding to a position of the adhesion amount detector in the orthogonal direction than that input to a portion of the cleaner not corresponding to the position of the adhesion amount detector in the orthogonal direction.
