An image forming apparatus includes a first condition section that derives, from the density of the image detected by an image density detector, a forming condition in forming an image such that the density of the image formed comes close to a predetermined target density, a second condition section that derives, from the environmental state detected by the environmental detector, a forming condition such that the density of the formed image becomes the target density, and a stabilization section that causes, when a difference between the two forming conditions exceeds a predetermined degree, the image forming section to perform a stabilization operation which stabilizes a developing property of the developer in the developing device as compared to the current environmental state, and thereafter causes the formation of an image, the density detection, and the derivation of the forming condition by the first condition section to be performed again.

An image forming system includes: a density detecting section that detects the density of a toner image formed on an image bearing member by an image forming section, the density being detected as an output image density; a hardware processor which performs; tone correction in accordance with input-output characteristics data indicating the relationship between an input image density and an output image density, the input image density being the image density of a tone component included in the input image data, the output image density being detected by the density detecting section in accordance with the tone component; determining whether there is a missing tone component in the input image data; and complementing the input-output characteristics data corresponding to a missing tone component, when it is determined that there is the missing tone component.

An image forming apparatus includes image bearing members, an intermediate transfer member, a transfer unit, a control unit, and image forming units respectively corresponding to the image bearing members and each configured to form and transfer an image to the intermediate transfer member, which is then transferred to the conveyed recording material. Image patterns on the intermediate transfer member are detected for positional deviation detection. In a first mode, timing of image formation is determined using a first reference. In a second mode, timing of image formation is determined using a second reference. Based on timings at which formed image patterns are detected, the control unit, in the second mode, corrects timing of image formation performed by a second image forming unit or corrects timing at which the recording material is conveyed to the transfer unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an irradiation unit for irradiating an image carrier having a detection image with light; a light-receiving unit for receiving reflected light of the light irradiated by the irradiation unit and outputting a detection signal corresponding to a light-receiving amount of the reflected light including a specular-reflected light component; and a detection unit for detecting one of position information and density information of the detection image based on a signal corresponding to a difference between a value of the detection signal corresponding to the light-receiving amount of the reflected light from a first position where the detection image is formed and a value of the detection signal corresponding to the light-receiving amount of the reflected light from a second position different from the first position.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image forming unit for forming successive images and a pattern image with developer on a transfer member, the successive images including a first image and at least one second image subsequent to the first image; a conveying unit for conveying a medium; a transfer unit for transferring the successive images on the transfer member onto the medium; a detector for detecting the pattern image on the transfer member; a controller for causing the image forming unit to form the pattern image between the first image and the at least one second image and form the at least one second image on the transfer member based on the detection of the pattern image by the detector; and a separation unit for separating the transfer member and the medium from each other to prevent the pattern image from being transferred onto the medium.

An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes: a plurality of photosensitive drums; a plurality of exposurers exposing some area of surfaces of each of the plurality of photosensitive drums; a plurality of developers disposing a toner in the exposed area on the surfaces of each of the plurality of photosensitive drums; an intermediate transfer belt transferred with the toner disposed on each of the plurality of photosensitive drums to form a pattern; and a processor controlling the plurality of photosensitive drums or the plurality of exposurers to form a printed pattern on the intermediate transfer belt at a predetermined first concentration in response to a print command being input and form a registration pattern on the intermediate transfer belt at a second concentration lower than the first concentration in response to a registration command being input.

An image forming device includes a plurality of image formation units each configured to form an image of one of a plurality of colors, and a patch image transfer unit configured to control transfer conditions during transferring a patch group that is a pattern for detecting a position shift and formed on an intermediate transfer belt onto a secondary transfer belt. The patch image transfer unit is configured to transfer patches of at least single color for which a band of transfer efficiency is narrowest, of the patch group, onto the secondary transfer belt under transfer conditions for the color, and during transition to the transfer conditions for the color from other transfer conditions or during transition from the transfer conditions for the color to the other transfer conditions, patches of a color other than the color, of the patch group is transferred onto the secondary transfer belt.

An image forming apparatus includes a detecting portion to detect a test toner image formed on an image bearing member, and a shielding member is provided between the detecting portion and the image bearing member and reciprocates between first and second positions. A first opposing portion includes a first member opposed to the image bearing member and provided at a position opposing the image bearing member through an opening in a process of movement of the shielding member, an electrically grounded electroconductive member is disposed in a side opposite a side of the first member opposed to the image bearing member; and a second opposing portion is disposed opposed to the image bearing member and provided at position opposing the image bearing member through the opening in the process of movement of the shielding member from the second position to the first position.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a developing apparatus, a toner supply portion, a toner density detection portion, an intermediate transfer body, a secondary transfer body, an image density detection unit, and a control unit. The control unit sets a transfer condition of at least either a primary transfer portion or a secondary transfer portion based on an image density being detected by the image density detection unit in a state where a target toner density set based on the image density being detected reaches a limit value of a predetermined setting range.

In a case where the input has been performed through the instruction input portion, the control portion executes, before starting image formation for the first time after replacement of the belt, an adjustment mode including a series of processes in which a relationship between the position in the width direction and the amount of tilting of the steering roller is adjusted, and also performs a toner supplying operation of supplying toner by transferring a toner image for supplying toner onto the belt.
