An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus having an apparatus main body, a sheet feeding cassette, a manual bypass tray, an opening/closing detection part and a sheet feeding source setting part. The apparatus main body has an input part to which a printing instruction is input. The manual bypass tray is displaced into an open posture and into a close posture. The sheet feeding source setting part sets the sheet feeding cassette or the manual bypass tray as a sheet feeding source. When the opening/closing detection part detects that the manual bypass tray is displaced from the close posture to the open posture and the printing instruction is input to the input part, regardless of the sheet feeding source input to the input part, the sheet feeding source setting part sets the manual bypass tray as the sheet feeding source.

INKJET PRINTING APPARATUS

There is provided an inkjet printing apparatus capable of stably outputting high quality images in a configuration of feeding a print medium that is kept horizontal, performing printing by the use of a print head, and conveying the print medium vertically upward. To this purpose, a platen that supports the back side of the print medium in a position facing a printing part of the print head is located to support the print medium at an angle greater than 0 and less than 90 with respect to the horizontal direction, thereby reducing a contact pressure from roller pairs on the printed side immediately after printing.

A sheet feeding apparatus, includes a moving portion configured to move one of a feeding portion and a stacking portion to switch between a contact state in which the feeding portion is in contact with a sheet on the stacking portion and a separation state in which the feeding portion is separated from the sheet; and a controller configured to control the moving portion to bring the feeding portion into the contact state at a time of start of a sheet feed job. The controller executes a first mode of controlling the moving portion to bring the feeding portion into the separation state, and executes a second mode of controlling the moving portion to maintain the feeding portion in the contact state when a sheet detector detects a sheet on the stacking portion after end of feeding of a final sheet in the sheet feed job.

A sheet feed portion feeds a sheet by performing a pickup operation in a cycle in which a pickup rotary member is switched from a released state to a contact state and then switched to the released state. A detection unit detects the sheet at a position downstream of the sheet feed portion in the sheet feeding direction. A control unit is capable of executing a first feed mode in which a first feed process of carrying out a pickup operation is executed, or a second feed mode in which the first feed process is executed and then a second feed process of carrying out an additional pickup operation is executed. The mode to be executed is determined based on a time when the sheet is detected by the detection unit and a length of the sheet.

According to one embodiment, a manual sheet feeding device includes a pressure plate, a first displacement member, a first input member, a second displacement member, a second input member, a coupling member, a restricting member, and an elastic member. The first displacement member displaces the plate from a first side to a pressure and a release position. The first input member displaces the first displacement member to a first and a second position. The second displacement member displaces the plate from a second side to the pressure and the release position. The second input member displaces the second displacement member to a third and a fourth position. The coupling member gives the second input member a second displacement amount larger than a first displacement amount. The restricting member restricts a displacement amount of the second input member. The elastic member elastically deforms when the amount of displacement is restricted.

An inkjet printing apparatus includes a stacking unit, a print head having an ejection opening surface located vertically above the stacking unit, and a platen that supports a back side of a print medium at an angle greater than 40 and less than 50 with respect to a horizontal direction. A discharging unit is located vertically above the print head, and a print medium subjected to printing by the print head is discharged onto the discharging unit. A conveying unit conveys a print medium, subjected to printing by the print head, vertically upward toward the discharging unit. In addition, the ejection opening surface faces the platen in a case in which the inkjet printing apparatus is in a printing state, and faces downward with respect to a direction of gravity in a case in which the inkjet printing apparatus is in a standby state.

An image forming apparatus includes a medium storing part storing mediums, a sheet feeding part feeding the medium from the medium storing part, an image forming part forming an image to the medium, a residual quantity detecting part, a storage part, and a residual medium estimating part. The residual quantity detecting part detects a residual quantity of the mediums stored in the medium storing part as a relative residual quantity with regard to a maximum storing quantity of the mediums in the medium storing part. The storage part stores maximum storing number of the mediums corresponding to the maximum storing quantity of the medium storing part. The residual medium estimating part calculates number of estimated residuals of the mediums stored in the medium storing part on the basis of the relative residual quantity detected by the residual quantity detecting part and the maximum storing number stored in the storage part.

An image forming apparatus includes plural first transfer units, a second transfer unit, a first transport unit, and a drive unit. The first transfer units transfer an image formed on plural image holding units to an intermediate transfer unit. The second transfer unit transfers the image, which is transferred to the intermediate transfer unit, to a recording medium. The first transport unit transports the recording medium to the second transfer unit. The drive unit drives the intermediate transfer unit with at least some of the plural first transfer units separated from the intermediate transfer unit and with the second transfer unit contacting the intermediate transfer unit when the recording medium, which has been subjected to a transport failure, is transported to a feeding position by the first transport unit.

A manual feed tray includes a tray body and a lift unit, and the lift unit includes a lift plate, a lift spring and a pair of cursors. The cursor includes a guide portion. When the manual feed tray is closed from a sheet feeding state of the lift plate, the guide portion comes into contact with a facing wall portion, whereby a downstream side of the lift plate in a covering direction moves downward. Thus, even if the manual feed tray is closed with the lift plate moved upward, the lift plate smoothly moves downward.
