The sensor measures the image of the evaluation pattern formed on the transfer object. The processing circuitry presents a determination result of a cause of a failure based on a comparison between a reference value serving as a reference of the evaluation pattern and a measured value of the image of the evaluation pattern by the sensor.

An image forming system includes: a transfer unit that transfers an image onto an object; a transporter that transports the object in the horizontal direction; a raising/lowering unit that raises and lowers the object in the vertical direction; and a processor configured to: after height adjustment performed by the raising/lowering unit, if the object has a top whose height is greater than a predetermined height when the object is to be transported to the transfer unit, stop the transport of the object to the transfer unit.

An image forming apparatus includes: a body; a cover openably attached to the body; an image bearer; a transferer attachable to the cover, the transferer including: a transfer roller facing the image bearer and displaceable between: a contact position at which the transfer roller comes into contact with the image bearer; or a separated position at which the transfer roller is separated from the image bearer; and a holder rotatably holding the transfer roller; and a biasing member to bias the transfer roller toward the image bearer to the contact position, a support shaft swingably supporting the holder; and a pressure receiver to receive the holder.

The detection unit has a contact portion and a detection portion, and the contact portion is movable to a first position and a second position.
