Transfer device and image forming apparatus incorporating same
A transfer device includes an image bearer and a transfer rotator. The transfer device further includes an adjuster including a rotatable cam and an opposed member opposed to the cam. The cam alternately contacts and separates the transfer rotator against and from the image bearer, having a continuous sloped surface with a plurality of positions, each position to contact the opposed member to obtain a different amount of separation between the image bearer and the transfer rotator. The transfer device further includes a controller to control the adjuster to adjust the amount of separation between the transfer rotator and the image bearer according to thickness or type of the recording medium when the recording medium starts to enter the transfer nip.

An image forming apparatus includes: a cassette including a first and a second sheet storage areas, arranged side by side, each on which a sheet having a predetermined size is placeable; a sheet feeder configured to feed the sheet from the first area to an image forming portion; a first sheet sensor; a second sheet sensor; a movement member configured to move the sheet from the second area to the first area when no sheet placed on the first area is detected by the first sheet sensor and the sheet placed on the second area is detected by the second sheet sensor; and an annunciator configured to annunciate that a sheet having a size different from the predetermined size is placed on the cassette when the first sheet sensor does not detect the sheet after a completion of a movement of the sheet.

An image forming device includes a toner image former forming, on a paper sheet, a toner image based on image information; a fixer including at least a pair of rollers and fixing the toner image by nipping, with a pressing member formed by the pair of rollers, the paper sheet on which the toner image is formed; an adjuster adjusting a pressure contact force applied by the pressing member to either a first pressure contact force or a second pressure contact force that is weaker than the first pressure contact force; and a controller controlling execution of a job related to image formation via the fixer, in which the controller provides a user with a notification that prompts the user to operate the adjuster for adjusting the pressure contact force to either the first pressure contact force or the second pressure contact force in accordance with the previously executed job.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND PRINT SETTING CHANGING METHOD
A print setting controller decides whether a combination of a sheet size and a sheet type specified for print setting is included in a combination table. When the combination of the sheet size and the sheet type specified for the print setting is included in the combination table, a controller executes a print job according to the print setting. When the combination of the sheet size and the sheet type specified for the print setting is not included in the combination table, the print setting controller selects a sheet type appropriate for the sheet size specified as the print setting, from the combination table, and changes the sheet type thus far designated to the selected sheet type. A display controller causes a display device to display a message to the effect that the sheet type has been changed.

An image forming system includes: a transfer unit that transfers an image onto an object; a transporter that transports the object in the horizontal direction; a raising/lowering unit that raises and lowers the object in the vertical direction; and a processor configured to: after height adjustment performed by the raising/lowering unit, if the object has a top whose height is greater than a predetermined height when the object is to be transported to the transfer unit, stop the transport of the object to the transfer unit.

An image forming apparatus includes: a first image forming unit that includes plural first image forming sections and a first intermediate transfer member on which a toner image formed by the plural first image forming sections is primarily transferred; a second image forming unit that is provided on a downstream side of the first image forming unit in a paper transport direction and includes plural second image forming sections and a second intermediate transfer member on which a toner image formed by the plural second image forming sections is primarily transferred; a first secondary transfer section that is provided corresponding to the first image forming unit and secondarily transfers the toner image formed on the first intermediate transfer member onto paper transported on a paper transport path; a second secondary transfer section that is provided corresponding to the second image forming unit and secondarily transfers the toner image formed on the second intermediate transfer member onto paper transported on a paper transport path; and a paper position adjusting roll that transports fed paper, at a predetermined timing, to a first secondary transfer position at which the first secondary transfer section performs secondary transfer, in which a distance between the paper position adjusting roll and a second secondary transfer position at which the second secondary transfer section performs the secondary transfer is longer than a maximum paper length that is a transport-direction length of paper having a largest paper size among sheets of paper having a probability of being used.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes an image forming part, a discharge tray, a reading part, a biasing support part, and a turning regulating part. The discharge tray is disposed above the image forming part. The reading part is turnably supported on an upper portion of the image forming part between a closed position and an opened position. The biasing support part biases the reading part from the closed position toward the opened position. The turning regulating part is engaged with the reading part disposed at the closed position and regulates a turning of the reading part, which is applied with a biasing force of the biasing support part, toward the opened position. When the medium is discharged from the image forming part to the discharge tray, the turning regulating part is disengaged with the reading part, and allows the turning of the reading part toward the opened position.
