A transport device includes: a first nipping part having an outer surface; a second nipping part having an outer surface, the second nipping part being configured to form, with the first nipping part, a nip region in which a recording medium is nipped by bringing the outer surface of the second nipping part into contact with the outer surface of the first nipping part, the second nipping part being relatively movable between a first position at which a distance from the second nipping part to the first nipping part is a first distance at which the nip region is formed and a second position at which the distance from the second nipping part to the first nipping part is longer than the first distance; a transport part including a holder that holds a front end side of the recording medium, the transport part being configured to move the holder to transport the recording medium to pass through the nip region together with the holder while the recording medium is being held by the holder; and a moving mechanism configured to relatively move the second nipping part such that a middle point of a period from when a relative movement of the second nipping part from the first position to the second position is started before a holding position of the recording medium by the holder enters the nip region to when the second nipping part is relatively moved to the first position after the holding position enters the nip region precedes a middle point of a period during which the holding position passes through the nip region.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit; a reverse conveying roller; a discharge unit including a reverse conveying path, an openable and closable member, an open/close sensor, a discharge tray, a sheet conveyance unit, and a failure detector; and a controller. If the controller determines that the sheet conveyance unit is in failure based on a detection result of the failure detector and determines that the openable and closable member is closed based on a detection result of the open/close sensor, the controller prohibits discharge of the sheet to the discharge tray and permits conveyance of the sheet to the reverse conveying path, and if the controller determines that the sheet conveyance unit is in failure and determines that the openable and closable member is open, the controller prohibits the conveyance of the sheet to the reverse conveying path.
Cleaning device and image forming apparatus including the same
The cleaning device includes a cleaning unit. The cleaning unit includes a cleaning part having a contact surface brought into contact with a surface of a conveyance roller to clean the surface of the conveyance roller, and a housing that supports the cleaning part. The cleaning part includes a web of a strip shape, the web forming the contact surface that comes in contact with the conveyance roller, a pressing roller that presses the web against the conveyance roller, a feed-out roller that feeds out the web so as to cause a part of the web that comes in contact with the conveyance roller to shift, and a take-up roller that takes up the web. The housing has an opening that receives foreign matter dropping from the vicinity of a nip portion formed between the pressing roller and the conveyance roller.

An image forming apparatus includes a drive unit disposed inside its housing, a support frame, a protrusion, and a support portion. The drive unit is configured to drive a conveyance unit for conveying a sheet toward an image forming unit. The support frame supports the drive unit. The protrusion has a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end is farther from the support frame than the proximal end is from the support frame. The support portion supports the proximal end of the protrusion. The drive unit further includes a torsion spring including a spiral portion engaged with the protrusion, and a first portion and a second portion each extending from the spiral portion. The first arm is pivotable about a pivot axis and includes a covering portion. The covering portion extends from the first arm and covers the distal end of the protrusion.
SHEET CONVEYANCE DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING DEVICE
A sheet conveyance device includes a conveyance unit, a skew conveyance unit, and an abutment unit. The conveyance unit conveys a sheet in a conveyance direction. The skew conveyance unit conveys the sheet in a first direction inclined to the conveyance direction. The skew conveyance unit is rotatable about an axial line orthogonal to the first direction. The abutment unit on which a side end portion of the sheet in a width direction of the sheet orthogonal to the conveyance direction of the sheet conveyed by the skew conveyance unit abuts. The abutment unit includes an abutment member extending in the conveyance direction and having a first surface, and a sheet member in a sheet form, wherein the sheet member is detachably attached to the first surface. The conveyed sheet is conveyed by the skew conveyance unit with the side end portion of the sheet abutting on the sheet member.
Sheet conveyance unit and image forming system therewith
A sheet conveyance device includes a sheet passage, a first sheet stacker, a second sheet stacker, and a sheet feeder. The first sheet stacker has a bottom and a lift. The sheet feeder includes an opening and a feed roller. The sheet conveyance device includes an assist plate supported to be movable between a first and a second position and an urging member. With the first sheet stacker mounted in an apparatus body, the assist plate moves from the first to the second position against the urging force of the urging member to allow passage of a sheet from the first sheet stacker to the sheet feeder. With the first sheet stacker removed from the apparatus body, the assist plate is urged by the urging member to move from the second to the first position to support the sheet conveyed from the second sheet stacker to the sheet feeder.
Image forming apparatus
In an image forming apparatus, a conveyance section forms a conveyance path and conveys a sheet in a conveyance direction. The conveyance section includes a conveyance roller for rotating around a roller shaft extending in a direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction, and a guide member. The guide member includes a first guide member for rotating around a first axial line to open/close with respect to a first partial region of the conveyance path, and a second guide member for rotating around a second axial line to open/close with respect to a second partial region different from the first partial region. The first axial line extends in a direction parallel to a longitudinal direction of the roller shaft. The second axial line extends in a direction intersecting with the longitudinal direction. The first guide member opens in conjunction with an opening action of the second guide member.
