A process cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a developing roller, a drum unit containing the drum, a developing unit containing the roller and being movable so the roller contacts and is spaced from the drum, and a first force receiver receiving a force from a main-assembly first force applier by movement of a door from open to closed positions when mounting the cartridge and a second force receiver movable from a stand-by position by movement of the first force receiver by a force received from the first force applier. The second force receiver takes a projected position receiving a force from the second force applier to move the developing unit so the roller moves out of contact with the drum, the projected position being higher than the stand-by position.

In accordance with one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming section and a transfer roller. A support body supports the image carrier in a main body opposite to the transfer roller. A holding member positioned in the support body holds the transfer roller. The holding member includes at least one groove in a portion of the holding member that holds the transfer roller. At least one conductive member is positioned in, and protruding from, the at least one groove so that a part of the conductive member makes electrical contact with the transfer roller when the transfer roller is held in the holding member. A power supply section applies transfer bias between the image carrier and the transfer roller through the conductive member.

In the structure of a shutter moving mechanism, if the inclination angle of an elongated hole with respect to a sliding direction of a shutter is increased, it is necessary to increase the size of a movement plate for moving the shutter. On the other hand, if the inclination angle of the elongated hole with respect to the sliding direction of the shutter is decreased, an urging force with which a user urges the door against an image forming apparatus when shutting the door is increased. A shutter moving mechanism includes a rotation mechanism and moves the shutter by rotation of the rotation mechanism.

An image forming apparatus includes a first image forming section, a second image forming section, and a transfer section. The first image forming section forms an image layer by a first developer. The second image forming section forms an auxiliary layer by a second developer. The transfer section transfers the image layer formed by the first image forming section and the auxiliary layer formed by the second image forming section sequentially to an object, as a transfer object, on which transfer is to be performed. The following expression is satisfied: 0.30(E2/E1)1.00, where E1 is a charge amount of the first developer, and E2 is a charge amount of the second developer.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming station, an intermediate transfer body, a transfer device, a transfer pressure applicator, and a controller. The image forming station forms a toner image. The toner image formed by the image forming station is transferred onto the intermediate transfer body. The transfer device transfers the toner image from the intermediate transfer body onto a recording medium. The transfer pressure applicator applies a secondary transfer pressure to the recording medium upon transfer of the toner image and to apply a lower secondary transfer pressure upon transfer of a toner image including a special color toner than that upon transfer of a toner image without the special color toner. The controller is operatively connected to the transfer pressure applicator to control the transfer pressure applicator.

An image-forming apparatus includes a main body, a belt unit detachably attachable to the main body, a coupling and a restricting part. The belt unit includes: a first roller defining an axis extending in an axial direction, a second roller opposing the first roller in a first direction perpendicular to the axial direction, and a belt looped over the first roller and the second roller. The coupling is configured to move in the axial direction to come into engagement with the first roller for inputting a drive force into the first roller. The restricting part is provided on the main body and is configured to restrict the first roller from moving in a second direction perpendicular to the axial direction and the first direction when the belt unit is attached to the main body.

An ITM module for an imaging device, including a frame; a tension roll disposed in the frame; an ITM belt rotatably coupled to the frame and formed as an endless loop around rolls of the ITM module, including the tension roll; and an adjustment mechanism coupled to an end portion of the frame and to the tension roll, the adjustment mechanism setting an amount of skew of the tension roll relative to the frame. The amount of skew is in a direction that is substantially orthogonal to a process direction of the ITM belt. The adjustment mechanism includes a cam member rotatably coupled to the frame and having a cam surface coupled a first end portion of the tension roll such that rotating the first cam member sets an amount of elevation of the first end portion of the tension roll relative to the frame.

A process cartridge is detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a developing roller, a drum unit containing the drum, a developing unit containing the roller and being movable so the roller contacts and is spaced from the drum, and a first force receiver receiving a force from a main-assembly first force applier by movement of a door from open to closed positions when mounting the cartridge and a second force receiver movable from a stand-by position by movement of the first force receiver by a force received from the first force applier. The second force receiver takes a projected position receiving a force from the second force applier to move the developing unit so the roller moves out of contact with the drum, the projected position being higher than the stand-by position.

When the dimension of a primary transfer roller in the width direction is represented by Wa, the dimension of a counter-sensor member in the width direction is represented by Wb, the dimension of an intermediate transfer belt in the width direction is represented by Wc, and the maximum dimension of a sheet in the width direction is represented by Wd, then the relationship WdWa<WbWc is fulfilled. The transfer position of a test pattern image is a position a predetermined distance away, inward in the width direction, from the edge of the intermediate transfer belt in the width direction. The predetermined distance is twice or more the distance in the width direction from the edge of the intermediate transfer belt in the width direction to the edge of the primary transfer roller in the width direction.
