The scaping portion scrapes the toner off the rotational body. The cleaning device also includes a guide portion that guides a recording medium toward the rotational body, and a guide support portion that supports the guide portion. The guide support portion is disposed at a position separated from the scraping portion in a state in which the guide support portion is pressed by the guide portion that is guiding the recording medium.

An image forming method includes forming an image with a toner using a photoconductor in which an intermediate layer and a photosensitive layer including a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer are formed overlying an electroconductive substrate, wherein the ionization potential of the surface of the photoconductor and the ionization potential of the surface of the toner satisfy the following relations 1 and 2,

An image forming apparatus comprises a plurality of sheet detection units, provided at different positions along a sheet width direction, configured to detect the sheet conveyed on a conveyance path. A controller determines, by using the plurality of sheet detection units, a presence or absence of a sheet being conveyed in each of a plurality of regions sectioned in the sheet width direction, and determines, based on input image data, a presence or absence of an image to be formed in each of the plurality of regions. The controller further determines, based on the above determination results, whether or not the image to be formed on the sheet being conveyed is to be formed with a deviation from the sheet, and controls an image forming operation in accordance with this determination result.

A cleaning device cleans a surface of a toner carrier carrying a toner, and the cleaning device includes: a first blade in contact with the surface of the toner carrier; a second blade made of a material harder than a material of the first blade and in contact with the surface of the toner carrier; and a lubricant applicator that applies a lubricant to the surface of the toner carrier, wherein the first blade, the second blade and the lubricant applicator are arranged in this order from an upstream side in a moving direction of the toner carrier based on a transfer position of the toner.

An image forming apparatus includes an image holding body, a transfer member, and a controller. The image holding body holds an unfixed image. The transfer member presses a continuous medium against the image holding body and causes the image to be transferred to the medium. The controller allows a cleaning operation in which undesired adhering matter adhering to the transfer member is transferred to the image holding body to be performed when the medium does not exist between the image holding body and the transfer member.
