The controlling unit performs control such that the toner amount that is supplied to a contact portion in a supplying operation is smaller when the surface smoothness of a transfer material corresponds to a second roughness than when the surface smoothness of the transfer material corresponds to a first roughness, the second roughness being greater than the first roughness.

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, an intermediary transfer member having ion conductivity and a rotatable endless belt shape, a primary transfer member, a secondary transfer member, a cleaning member, an environment sensor and a controller. Based on a result of the environment sensor, the controller controls so as to change a current balance based on an integrated value of a first current value and an integrated value of a second current value. The first current value is a current flowing from inside of the intermediary transfer member to outside thereof and the second current value is a current flowing from outside of the intermediary transfer member to inside thereof.

An intermediate transfer belt has a first region and a second region in an outer circumferential surface thereof that is in contact with a blade. The first region has a first dynamic friction coefficient in a belt conveyance direction, and the second region has a second dynamic friction coefficient. The distance of the second region in the belt conveyance direction is less than the distance of the first region and is greater than the distance of a contact portion in which the blade is in contact with the intermediate transfer belt.

A cleaning device of the disclosure includes a housing, a cleaning member, a cleaning blade, a seal member, a discharge screw, and a first film member as well as a second film member. In the housing, a waste toner containing part is formed. The discharge screw is placed in the waste toner containing part. The first film member and the second film member are reciprocatively moved in a radial direction of the rotating shaft. The first film member is so positioned as to be inclined constantly downward as it becomes farther and farther from the seal member. A second end portion of the second film member is placed between the discharge screw and the seal member.

An image forming apparatus includes a movable endless belt, an image forming unit forming a developer image, a transfer unit transferring the developer image to a medium on a downstream side of the image forming unit in a belt moving direction, a belt cleaning unit cleaning the belt on a downstream side of the transfer unit in the belt moving direction, a detection unit detecting a surface state of the belt on a downstream side of the transfer unit and on an upstream side of the belt cleaning unit in the belt moving direction, and a control unit stopping move of the belt based on a result detected at the detection unit before any foreign object on the belt reaches the belt cleaning unit or the image forming unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a latent image forming device, a developer, an intermediate transfer belt, a second transfer device, a cleaner, an abutting angle adjuster and a hardware processor. The intermediate transfer belt supports and carries a toner image which is transferred from the image carrier by primary transfer. The second transfer device performs secondary transfer to transfer the toner image transferred on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording medium. The cleaner abuts the intermediate transfer belt to remove toner attached to a surface of the intermediate transfer belt. The abutting angle adjuster adjusts an abutting angle between the cleaner and the intermediate transfer belt. The hardware processor controls the abutting angle adjuster to maintain the abutting angle at a predetermined angle.

A belt device includes a movable belt, a detection target, an optical detector, and a cleaner. The belt is looped around a plurality of supporting members. The detection target is disposed extending along a direction of belt movement on at least one side of the belt in a width direction of the belt intersecting with the don of belt movement. The optical detector detects the detection target. The cleaner is attached to at least one of the plurality of supporting members to clean the detection target.

A cleaning device includes a cleaning device body including a cleaning member, the cleaning member being in contact with a surface of an image carrier so as to remove developer retained on the surface of the image carrier; and a fixing member that fixes an end of the cleaning device body in a longitudinal direction to a side surface of a frame that supports the image carrier and corresponds to the end of the cleaning device body in the longitudinal direction.

An image forming apparatus includes: a toner feed body that is an endless belt holding a toner image, or is a transfer member transferring a toner image to a recording medium nipped between the endless belt and the transfer member; an electric charge imparting member that is provided so as to face a surface of the toner feed body and increases an amount of electric charges of toner adhering to the surface of the toner feed body; and a toner attracting member that is provided at a more downstream part of the toner feed body than the electric charge imparting member in a feed direction of the toner feed body and attracts the toner by being applied with a voltage having a polarity opposite to a polarity of the toner adhering to the surface of the toner feed body.

An image forming apparatus includes: a toner transport body that is an endless belt holding a toner image, or is a transfer member transferring the toner image to a recording medium nipped between the endless belt and the transfer member; a cleaning brush that has plural first bristle materials that rotate and come into contact with a surface of the toner transport body, and cleans a toner adhering to the surface of the toner transport body; and a removing brush that has plural second bristle materials in contact with the first bristle material of the cleaning brush and removes the toner adhering to the first bristle material.
