An example apparatus is provided in accordance with the present disclosure, which may be used for example for liquid electrophotographic printing. The example apparatus includes a photo imaging plate to receive a liquid colorant image, the liquid colorant including a carrier fluid, and to transfer the image to a support, and a rotatable roller to remove carrier fluid from the photo imaging plate and increase the density of solids in the liquid colorant on at least a region of the photo imaging plate, prior to the liquid image being transferred.

A method of operating an electrophotographic printer (100) to control the optical density of a printed image is described. The method comprises providing a printing substance on a transfer member (104); emitting a pulse of heat to heat the printing substance on the transfer member to increase flowability of the printing substance on the transfer member; and transferring, from the transfer member to a substrate (108), the printing substance heated by the pulse of heat so as to provide the printed image on the substrate.

A method for heat treatment of mixed media sheets in an image reproduction apparatus having an image forming station, a heat treatment station, a conveying path for conveying the sheets one by one through the image forming station and the heat treatment station, and a duplex loop for looping sheets back from the heat treatment station to the image forming station includes pre-heating a sheet before an image is formed thereon in the image forming station. The pre-heating includes the sub-steps of passing the sheet through the image forming station while the image forming station is idle, passing the sheet through the heat treatment station for pre-heating, and looping the sheet back to the image forming station.

An example apparatus is provided in accordance with the present disclosure, which may be used for example for liquid electrophotographic printing. A transfer-type ink jet recording apparatus including an intermediate image forming unit for applying an ink containing a resin to an intermediate transfer member to form an intermediate image and a transfer unit for transferring the intermediate image to a recording medium. The apparatus further includes a heating unit for heating the intermediate image to a temperature equal to or higher than the minimum film forming temperature of the resin and a cooling unit for cooling the intermediate image heated by the heating unit to a temperature lower than the glass transition temperature of the resin to supply the image to the transfer unit.
