A process cartridge includes: a drum cartridge; and a developing cartridge. The drum cartridge includes: a drum frame; a photosensitive drum rotatable about a first axis extending in a first direction; and a first memory having a first electrical contact surface. The developing cartridge is attachable to the drum frame and includes: a casing; a developing roller rotatable about a second axis extending in the first direction; a second memory having a second electrical contact surface; and a developing holder holding the second electrical contact surface such that the second electrical contact surface is movable relative to the casing. The drum cartridge further includes an elastic member that can expand and contract in a second direction crossing the first direction. The developing holder is connected to the elastic member and is movable in the second direction in a state where the developing cartridge is attached to the drum frame.

An image forming apparatus includes: a main casing; a main memory; and a controller. A cartridge is detachably attachable to the main casing. The cartridge includes a cartridge memory storing therein identification information identifying the cartridge. The main memory is configured to store therein history information including history identification information. The history identification information is identification information for a previous subscription cartridge previously attached to the main casing. The controller is configured to perform: in response to a cartridge being attached to the main casing, (a) reading identification information from a cartridge memory of the attached cartridge as current identification information; (b) determining whether the current identification information read in (a) matches the history identification information included in the history information stored in the main memory; and in response to determining in (b) that the current identification information matches the history identification information, (c) permitting use of the attached cartridge.
Authenticating A Replaceable Printer Component
A replaceable printer component includes a first memory device and a communication link. The first memory device is configured to store a first secret. The communication link is configured to communicatively link the first memory device to a printer controller when the replaceable printer component is installed in a printing system. The printing system comprises a second memory device storing a second secret. The second memory device is communicatively linked to the printer controller. The printer controller is configured to determine an authenticity of the replaceable printer component based on the first secret and the second secret.

A printing material receptacle fitted on a folder of a printing apparatus that includes a writing unit. The printing material receptacle includes a housing to accommodate ink; a first recording portion formed on a face of the housing and for recording updatable first information relating to the printing material receptacle to be updatable and visible using a non-electronic method, the face being exposed from the folder when the printing material receptacle is fitted on the folder; and a second recording portion formed on the face of the housing and for recording updatable second information relating to the printing material receptacle to be updatable, invisible, and mechanically readable using a non-electronic method. The first and second recording portions are configured to be written with the first and second information respectively by the writing unit.

A developer cartridge according to one aspect is attachable to a photoconductor unit that comprises a photoconductive drum. The developer cartridge may comprise a main body having an opening, the main body comprising an electric circuit, a front cover configured to move to an opening position in which the opening of the main body is exposed and to a closing position in which the opening of the main body is closed, a first terminal electrically connected to the electric circuit, a photosensitive drum, and a developer cartridge comprising a developing roller, developing frame having a pressed portion, memory unit and second terminal. The front cover may include a pressing portion configured to press the pressed portion of the developing frame in a direction from the developing roller toward the photosensitive drum, and wherein the second terminal faces to the front cover when the front cover is in the closed position.

The first storage medium includes a first electrical contact surface. The first hole is positioned farther from the housing in the first direction than the second holder and the elastic member are from the housing in the first direction and is overlapped with the electrical contact surface as viewed in the second direction.
