TOOL SURFACE NANO-STRUCTURE PATTERNING PROCESS
Method of patterning a surface of an object or a tool with nano and/or micro structure elements having dimensions in a range of 1 nanometer to 1 millimeter, comprising the steps of producing a flexible mask with said nano or micro structure pattern formed on a surface of said flexible mask, chemically activating said surface of the flexible mask and/or said surface to be patterned of the tool, placing said patterned surface of the flexible mask in contact with said surface to be patterned of the object or tool, promoting a covalent bonding reaction between said patterned surface of the flexible mask in contact with said surface to be patterned, removing the flexible mask from the tool whereby a layer of said flexible mask remains bonded to said surface to be patterned of the tool, etching said surface to be patterned of the tool whereby the bonded layer of flexible mask material resists etching. An anti-activation mask defining a periphery of the surface area to be patterned, or peripheries of the surface area to be patterned if there are a plurality of separate portions of surface area to be patterned, is deposited on the flexible mask prior to placing the patterned surface of the flexible mask on the surface to be patterned. The anti-activation mask prevents bonding of the flexible mask to the surface of the object or tool in areas where the anti-activation mask is present.
System for producing ultra-thin color phase hologram with metasurfaces
A device for producing a subwavelength hologram. The device comprises a metasurface layer attached to a substrate. The metasurface layer includes an array of plasmonic antennas that simultaneously encode both wavelength and phase information of light directed through the array to produce a hologram. The wavelength is determined by the size of the antennas, and the phase is determined by the orientation of the antennas.
Arbitrary polarization-switchable metasurfaces
An optical component comprises a metasurface comprising nanoscale elements. The metasurface is configured to receive incident light and to generate optical outputs. The geometries and/or orientations of the nanoscale elements provide a first optical output upon receiving a polarized incident light with a first polarization, and provide a second optical output upon receiving a polarized incident light with a second polarization that is different from the first polarization.
Electrically-controlled dynamic optical component comprising a planar metasurface
An optical component comprising a planar metasurface arranged on a surface of a first substrate and a top layer arranged in a height direction Z above the metasurface, wherein the metasurface comprises a plurality of scattering structures, wherein a dielectric material is deposited on a subset of the plurality of scattering structures, wherein an active media is sandwiched between the metasurface and the top layer, wherein an incident electromagnetic radiation is transmitted or reflected by the optical component, wherein a phase profile modulation is induced on the incident electromagnetic radiation during the reflection or transmission.
Display, transfer foil, adhesive label, and labeled article
A display including a relief structure forming layer having a major surface with a relief type diffractive structure that displays a three-dimensional object as a diffraction image; and a reflective layer at least partially covering a region of the major surface where the diffractive structure is provided. A portion of the diffractive structure in a first region includes first and second linear parts forming a first lattice, and first parts arranged in respective gaps of the first lattice. The first and second linear parts each having a solid line shape form a first pattern. A portion of the diffractive structure in a second region includes third and fourth linear parts alternately arranged in the width direction thereof. The third linear parts each having a dashed line shape and the fourth linear parts each having a dashed or dotted line shape form a second pattern.
Cell stimulation and culture platform using ultrasonic hologram

Image display and labeled device
An image display according to an embodiment includes a first image-displaying portion that displays first information about a certain object as a first image of object color, and a second image-displaying portion that displays second information about the object as a second image of structural color provided by a relief structure, the relief structure including at least one structure selected from the group consisting of diffraction grating, hologram, and light-scattering structure having an anisotropic light-scattering property. According to an example, the object is a person, and the first image includes a facial image of the person. A labeled article according to another embodiment includes the image display, and a substrate supporting the image display.
Optical security device having a high refractive index layer between adjacent diffraction elements which have upper portions uncovered by the high refractive index layer
An optical security device is disclosed which includes a diffraction layer having a plurality of diffraction elements and a high refractive index layer, wherein the high refractive index layer is applied on the diffraction layer such that selected regions of the diffraction layer have the corresponding diffraction elements partially uncovered by the high refractive index layer and other regions are substantially covered by the high refractive index layer. Accordingly, the optical security device has a first security feature associated with the diffraction layer and a second security feature associated with the high refractive index layer. An image is viewable from the regions of the high refractive index layer, either, covertly by placed an index matched item over the device or, overtly, through selection of the thickness of the high refractive index layer.
