The method includes: generating a beam by a single light source, directing the beam to a decoherence unit at a predetermined angle, forming at least two recording beams by the decoherence unit by splitting the beam, forming at least two recording channels in the decoherence unit to transmit the at least two recording beams and output them from the decoherence unit, output angles of each of the at least two recording beams being different, the at least two recording beams being non-interfering when leaving the decoherence unit, which is provided in accordance with at least one of: output times, spatial positions, polarization states, or spectral compositions of each of the at least two recording beams, illuminating a recording material layer and one master diffractive optical element/master holographic optical element (master DOE/HOE) comprising at least one preliminary formed diffraction/holographic grating by the at least two non-interfering recording beams, simultaneously forming at least two superimposed holographic gratings from the master DOE/HOE on or in the recording material layer, the formed superimposed holographic gratings having a same surface period, but a different spatial period.

In one aspect, the holographic imaging device comprises an imaging unit comprising at least two light sources, wherein the imaging unit is configured to illuminate an object by emitting at least two light beams with the at least two light sources. A first and second light beams have different wave-vectors and wavelengths. The holographic imaging device further comprises a processing unit configured to obtain at least two holograms of the object by controlling the imaging unit to sequentially illuminate the object with respectively the first light beam and the second light beam, construct at least two 2D image slices based on the at least two holograms, wherein each 2D image slice is constructed at a determined depth within the object volume, and generate a three-dimensional image of the object based on a combination of the 2D image slices.

The first mirror includes a reflective compensatory HOE to diffract the optical image from the PGU at a second diffraction angle, and in response to change of a wavelength of the optical image from the PGU, the reflective compensatory HOE is configured to diffract the optical image from the PGU at a third diffraction angle different from the second diffraction angle such that the HOE provides the output optical image in the target direction.

Various embodiments of this disclosure relate to a piecewise varying rolled K-vector grating structure including: a first grating section containing a grating with a first K-vector, a second grating section containing a grating with a second K-vector; and a first boundary region positioned between the first grating section and the second grating section. The first boundary region is a multiplexed grating region including both the first K-vector and the second K-vector. Further disclosed is a method for recording such a grating structure utilizing a holographic recording process. Providing a multiplexed grating in the first boundary region may largely remove line exposure artifacts between adjacent sections of the P-RKV grating.

A display device includes a light source, a waveguide element, a liquid crystal coupler, a first holographic optical element and a second holographic optical element. The light source is configured to emit light. The waveguide element is located above the light source. The liquid crystal coupler is located between the waveguide element and the light source. The first holographic optical element is located on a top surface of the waveguide element, in which the liquid crystal coupler is configured to change an incident angle that the light emits to the first holographic optical element. The second holographic optical element is located on the top surface of the waveguide element, and there is a first distance in a horizontal direction between the first holographic optical element and the second holographic optical element, in which the second holographic optical element is configured to diffract the light to the waveguide element below.
