Electronic devices with shape-transforming displays

An electronic device may have a housing with a display. The display may be overlapped by an image transport layer such as a coherent fiber bundle or layer of Anderson localization material. The image transport layer may have an input surface that receives an image from the display and a corresponding output surface to which the image is transported. The input surface and output surface may have different shapes. A wristwatch device may, as an example, have a rectangular or hexagonal input surface and may have an output surface such as a rectangular output surface with rounded corners or a circular output surface. A region of the output surface may have compound curvature. A portion of the image transport layer may protrude laterally over an inactive portion of the display.

Magnetically orbiting user-worn device

A user-worn device includes a band portion and a display portion. The band portion comprises a wire that is configured to create a first magnetic field that follows the curvature of the band portion. The display portion comprises a first electromagnet that is configured to produce a second magnetic field. The display portion orbits around the band portion in a first orbital direction when the first and second magnetic fields interact.

OBJECT PROVIDED WITH AN ELECTRO-OPTIC DISPLAY DEVICE

An object includes an electro-optic display device provided with an optically active element, the optical properties thereof can be modified by applying an electric voltage or current between at least one electrode and one corresponding auxiliary electrode, between which the optically active element is disposed. The object further includes a middle part which delimits an opening closed by a crystal including a bottom surface beneath which the electro-optic display device is arranged. The crystal is provided with an opaque frame which is made remotely from the edges of the opening and which covers the contour of the electro-optic display device so as to conceal electrical connection elements. The electro-optic display device defines an active display area which is confined by the opaque frame, such that, when the electro-optic display device is activated and displaying information, a transparent area remains between the opaque frame and the edges of the opening.

Aspects of the technology provide a symbiotic graphical display on a client device such as a smartwatch. The system includes at least one emissive display element and at least one non-emissive display element. The display elements are arrayed in layers or other configurations such that content or other information is concurrently aligned across the respective display surfaces of the different elements. A first set of content is rendered using the non-emissive display element while a second set of content is rendered using the emissive display element. Depending on characteristics or features of a given content item, that item may be rendered by one or both of the display elements. Certain content may be transitioned from the emissive display element to the non-emissive display element according to a time threshold or other criteria.

The bendable part includes a first bendable part and a second bendable part. The second bendable part is connected with the end part. Both the end part and the fixed part are provided with a limiting member.
